I just love the deer but seldom see them...I think that they come through in the night. Sometimes I know thst they are near because I can smell them....

The poor animals are practically obliged to steal from us if they want to eat - we have destroyed so much or their natural habitat. Your 'flick of the white' told me they were deer - such beautiful creatures.

Re: I love hosta - they're such hardy and forgiving plants.

But I don't begrudge it to the deer - there's been so much development around here that they really have no place to live and feed on their own.

Re: Holy Cow, CC, you're right - I hadn't thought of it, but, yes,

cows DO have big brown eyes and leathery noses, and they DO have a meditative stare when they slowly chew and look. My point is, so do deer, especially while they're destroying - in less than fifteen minutes -this year's growth of hosta, flowers and all, in my back yard.
