Re:

A lot of books, Blue feathers, with a lot of errors! I don't know how those teachers got through it . . .

Re: Jimmy

Touche', Naut! But I would hope that American textbooks would have far fewer errors than that! Grammar, spelling, punctuation . . . those types of errors can happen in the best of countries. I think the only "real" errors our textbooks may actually carry are fact-related . . .

Re:

That's probably true, C C T. And you would think that, before anyone tried to find short-cuts or began to "blur" their vocabulary, they would at least learn it properly first! However, having text books with dozens of errors doesn't help anybody . . .

Why should Mexican kids be any better off than our own?

Goodness Jimmy I did not think there were that many errors possible.I do not profess to be very good at grammar, but I think the standard is pretty low everywhere. I suppose youths like to invent a kind of slurring vocabulary, but it is not much use if one wants to get their without confusing there teacher.

Re:

Well, lustor, apparently it's a toss-up between whether they are dumb, or just lazy! Either way, that's still a lot of text books to print out with that many mistakes . . . !

dont undetstand how this could happen, how dumb are they?

Re:

Hopefully they can, mariss, at least for the sake of those children! Like I wrote, it would seem that if any one of those mistakes gets through, it could lead to some mass confusion down the line! Those teachers are going to really have to be on their toes . . .

Regrettable, with all their other concerns, it may be something they can handle.

Re:

It is tough sometimes, TAPS. But the big difference is, you can still rely on those things you've already learned, and can see, and correct, those mistakes yourself. But when you're a school-aged child and are relying on the "adults" to properly educated you . . .

Re: JimmyA

Frightful indeed, Sir Wiley, for a few reasons. I can only imagine how many other errors are out there in any school children's text books! Then we wonder why so many kids are growing up unbelievably ignorant and totally confused . . .

Re:

It is sad, Kabu, when you really think about it. If you or I came across an error somewhere pertaining to something we already know ( Montreal is the capitol of Canada! No it's not! It's Ottawa! ) we could simply rolls our eyes and move on. But when you're a child still learning, you'll believe that Montreal is indeed the capitol because you read it in a book! It does make a difference . . .

Re:

Thanks, Dr JPT. And you're right. Try to imagine getting a building kit of something, and certain aspects of the instructions were written incorrectly. Your end result could be a disaster! Some people just don't realize that when you write a 3 instead of a 2, or say left when you mean right, there could be dire consequences! I hope those teachers correct all of those errors . . .

Re:

All too true, adnohr! I get so angry at myself when, after I post a blog, I then find a typo! I can still go in and correct it, but it's just an example of my attempts to be a perfectionist in everything I do. It's a shame that not a lot of people share that particular characteristic . . .

Re:

I would wager, FSI, that there are probably thousands that many are not even aware of! I have heard of certain simplistic errors being found in dictionaries, encyclopedias, newspaper & magazines and such, but in 235 million text books? How is anyone supposed to get a proper education if their reference books are filled with mistakes? Baffling . . .

Re:

I must admit, Utah, I'm not exactly sure of your reference, but I can only assume that it's something negative and mocking! I guess scenarios like this are not all that uncommon . . .

I find those kind of mistakes here on Blogit, and we have spell check and punctuation check.  Worst thing of all is that I find those kind of mistakes on my own posts, after I have used spell check and search engines.....and I consider myself intelligent.  Oh my.

lazy sloppy work that is all I can say. Disgusting and I am sad to read of such behaviour where a countries children are concerned.

What happened to spell check and grammatical checks with the computer?  What if their are errors in math books, talk about straightening that out.  Good post and analyzation.

Lots of extra work for both teachers and students. A pity, but falling in line with the competence (read 'lack of') shown in many areas today.

I echo the thoughts that you shared...I wonder how many other books there have errors that have not been caught yet.
