Re:
That's a great option, calia, but sometimes we have no choice but to use the "regular" mail, a system that's been in place for over two hundred years! You would think that the service would have improved over that time! Instead, it seems to have gotten worse! Frustrating at times, isn't it . . . ?

I try very hard to avoid the mail in my town. So far I have had a car payment go missing, a mortgage payment go missing, and a cell phone rebate form and UPC end up returned soaking wet a week after sending it. I try to do everything online if I can help it.

Re: JimmyA
Sorry to hear that, Sir Wiley. Can anyone, anywhere, get it right anymore? I know we're all human, we all mistakes, and we all have to make allowances. But some things just defy logic sometimes! If my handwriting had been illegible, and they had trouble deciphering the address, that would have been one thing. Otherwise, I was completely stumped . . . !

Re:
I don't blame you at all, C C T. If I had ordered something, and it was taking its sweet-ass time arriving, that's one thing. But in my case, I was sending something special to someone that really needed to arrive by a certain date! As far as I'm concerned, that didn't happen! And this is why certain businesses fail . . .

No problem, Utah. Since we're all a part of the "Blog-it family," I suppose the least we can probably do is support each other through kinds words and thoughts. I know it will be somewhat of a slow recovery, but I hope you're doing a little better today . . .

Yes it is a problem sometimes Jimmy I ordered some plants and after waiting 3 months I wrote to the plants-man, He replied brusquely he had posted them a month ago, so he has lost a good customer.

Re:
Thanks, Blue feathers. I very, very rarely forget anyone's birthday, especially a "milestone" birthday! And I guess the jury's still out as to who was actually at fault between the two post offices. Even though I no longer have my niece's card, it would still be interesting to inquire about this situation from any post office, and find out exactly what may have happened! For another day . . .

Re:
You, Dr JPT, and my wife seem to be on the same page as well! Sometimes I say something, and other times I just walk away, but never use certain people and their services ever again ( most of the time, pointing out the incompetency of others just gets you frustrated, and doesn't accomplish anything! ). My wife, however, is from the "old school," and always feels that every job and/or task should be done with the utmost accuracy and care! However, this is a special work ethic that has been dying a slow death for many years now! Most people just don't care anymore, and it's a shame, because everyone else usually suffers as a result . . .

I haven't had that happen. It does seem like the receiving post office would be the one returning the letter though.. maybe.. dunno for sure.
So nice of you to remember your niece's birthday.

I have that happen to me all the time. I used the exact words, laziness or incompetence to describe a situation not a person and fell out of grace and out of a job. My post today talks about it in a way.
JimmyA, you and I along with others like us must understand that we learned and know how to do things right, and do them right. Others, who do not, lack character and ability. You do better than I for you do not say a thing. I confront and make people angry that I dared tell them of their incompetence or laziness. I do my best to avoid, yet time and time again I face it in one form or another. I may never learn that it is okay to let sloppiness and inaccuracy pass with the idea that it is ok. It is not in my opinion.

Re: Jimmy
Yes, Naut, very strange indeed! But if you read my response to Annicita, you'll understand why I still think it had something to do with the post office of my neighboring town! No matter what, since I never have these problems with my own post office, I'm still not going to take any chances in the future . . .

Re:
If that's true, Annicita, then I would still have two unanswered questions. First, when the receiving post office gets their mail, the stamp is usually marked so it can't be reused ( which has happened to me before ). The fact that this one wasn't leads me to believe that it never made it to the receiving post office in North Carolina! And secondly, if it was the fault of the receiving post office, then how did it get through the second time with no changes, going to the exact same post office? No, I really think that the post office I dropped the card off at was either too lazy or simply incompetent, tossed it aside for one reason or another for about a week, and then decided to send it back to me! Very frustrating indeed . . .

Re:
I can understand that, Kabu. With the prices being what they are, you would think that the Pony Express was still in business, and the extra expense was to cover the riders in case of Indian attacks or something! That's why I never take chances and give my correspodence as much extra time as possible! Better early than late . . .

Sorry, Lost, I'm just not sure where you're coming from! You prefer the post office to all others. What others?
And "leaving it alone" probably would have meant that my niece not get her card at all. No, that was not an option!

Re:
Yeah, FSI, there was at least a bit of a silver lining. And I have no idea if my sister-in-law even bothered to relay to my niece what had happened. Since the card was sitting there waiting for her anyway, I guess she needn't know. Still, it shouldn't have happened in the first place . . .

Re:
That, lustor, is what is known as "shooting yourself in the foot!" I know e-mails, texting, e-cards, FaceBook and the like have put a big dent in the mail system in general, but when you factor in such incompetence, no business is going to survive! Yeah, at least once a week you'll see people walking up and down my street exchanging each other's mail that was delivered incorrectly. Bizarre . . .

Re:
That's true too, adnohr. At times it appears that "customer service" may be a contradiction in terms. When you read and hear of such things, it makes you wonder sometimes how certain businesses remain in business! Yeah, I would've loved to have heard their rationale for sending that card back too . . .

Re:
That's true, mariss. Sure, you can let some things slide once in a while, and everyone is allowed to have a "bad day" here and there. But there are some people out there who simply take no pride in their work whatsoever, and don't care about the next person. Yeah, we've received a few crushed and mangled packages ourselves . . .

my eldest daughter sent my youngest daughter a birthday card to her new address but she got it back with something similar written accross it, She checked the address and it was correct so she and my other daughter have no idea why she didnt get it but my daughters mail wasnt the only mail that wasnt received so my daughter reported it to the post office and now she has been getting her mail.
and they say they are hurting for money no wonder with that kind of service

Too bad you needed to get the card off so quickly. It would have been interesting to hear the excuse for the return. We keep hearing about things like this, in many businesses that depend on customer service. They want to customers, but forget the service.

I have not had that happen from one office to another, but I do like the way you take sending the cards the right way to heart! However, I do have ridiculous packages stuffed crazily in the post office box in my apartments on occaision when we have drawers and an office. I will complain if it happens again. It's a busy, hard job and they are overworked, so I let some things go, but not forever.
