that is true in some ways, but its our problems and we can relate to them its hard to relate to other people problems

Sometimes when we learn of other people's problems and sorrows, our don't seem as bad at all as they did before.

Although someone in that position would be extremely curious as to the truth of their past, it almost sounds as if she wished she didn't learn or know of certain things! Perhaps some things are better left buried in the past, but you're a good friend to let her share all this with you . . .
