Re: Blue Feathers

No kind of abnormal getting aggrieved over such a stupid thing. If he had opened the orchard to the folk a sense of wellbeing might have giving him years of happy life.

Re: Ciel

Yes Ciel it does not do to get worked up over trivial things, as I am sure you do not.

There were a lot of really poor people in those days, I remember seeing a little gypsy girl with a coat made from a sack.

Re: Rumour

Perhaps it came a little early for Mr Baggot, Rumour .  A very possessive man, and high blood pressure.

Re: Kabu

I wish I had something that would eat them ,but they were only a sprinkling the tree was so loaded, I have had to pull hundreds of small apples off the trees to give the others a chance. Yes well, most folk were poor and the rest very rich, but it has changed a lot since then. I expect most folk would feel insulted these days if the lady in the big house sent a family a bowl of dripping, my mother's family was pleased although their daddy was covered in lice and mud in the trenches.

Re: Jimmy

Well as you know folk did not live to a great age very often blood pressure etc. If the chap had a heart attack and the Doctor had to rig his trap up it was a bit dicey to say the least.

Re: lost in life.

These are little eating apples . I have one small tree, they fall and turn red, my mates wife picked a bagful off the tree usually the fallers have a maggot. I don't think many make jellies round these parts, I might have tried it years ago. Cheers

Re: Adnohr

Yes there were a few mean old men around even in those days. In fact I have known quite a lot, but most would point to another and surprizingly suggest that he was as tight as a ducks ####

Re: Taps

Taps I have a few oldies that wait each year for the pear crop, I wish I had planted more , as you say they are lovely straight from the tree.

The Doctor always knows best CCT. This was a wonderful story.

That's quite a tale.  When my sons were little, we used to take them to get windfall pairs from a family that had four big trees (at their invitation).  We would always get a large amount of them as the bruised part from the fall had to be removed.  I would make pear honey for buttered biscuits.  It was quite lovely.

I enjoyed your little story very much!

Mom's would often tell us stories to teach us some morale. This is a good one, a tale to which a child could easily relate.

Yes, this is cool.

I hope you got lots of Jam and Jellies, maybe even a wine or two?
I saw crab apples at first? What kind are these?
Maybe fitting for the man that owned that land seemed to be a little bit of a crab?

:)

I imagine riding the bike to scold you two was what done him in.. Good tale, again.
God's bounty is not to be horded...

I can only hope that your mum didn't feel as though she were directly responsible for his demise! Perhaps he should have been paying more attention to his general health than the apples laying strewn on the ground! Good tale . . .

CCT

Great story! And I do feel a bit sorry for a sad type like Mr. Maggot, er...Baggot, who must have been a very unhappy man...

You do a great job at describing the characters and their behavior...That guy was something.

Wonderful name for your mean old man character. Perfect!

The story reads like a Dickens tale. Well told!

that dear old Doctor understood a lot...wonderful story...what a spoilt life I have lived. I have been poor by local standards but never have gone hungry in my life.

And when I saw your picture of the apples, my thought was to collect them and put them out back for the animals to enjoy. The deer love apples.

A couple of interesting turns of event in this little story, CCT....

Its so true, stunningly at times, we all have an appointed time when "our time" will be over...and I couldn't help thinking of "whatsoever a man sows, he shall also reap" - very true of our Mr. Baggot in both instances....

Divine retribution doesn't usually come so quickly

But I suppose he probably had done something rotten the week before, too.

Really, getting mad about the apples might have burst something.

I suppose some folks forget that we come into the world with nothing and go out with nothing. Too bad he was holding so tight to his apples. He might not have passed..
