Re: The moral issue in speeding may have something to do with there being
other drivers on the road who are not as comfortable as others with high speed and are distracted by high speeders on the road.
My son said it, and I may have said it here before: When people get in their cars, they lose their sense of community.

Interest assessments. Of course, when the various counties, states and even countries post their speed limits, they feel they are doing people a favor by helping them exercise discretion with their vehicles, depending on, as you've said, the area and possibly the weather. However, not many people pay a whole heck of a lot of attention to them! Here in New Jersey, for example, speed limits are merely suggestions rather than law . . .

It is interesting how speed is looked at as a moral issue, especially with such varieties in speeds as you mentioned...Montana itself does not have speed limits.

I've always had a heavy foot on the highway. It always seems I'm going slower than I really am.

I try to drive the speed limit unless I am in a hurry then I dont drive the speed limit but I am only in a hurry everyday so technically it is never any different so I maintain that I do not speed.

I've been doing a lot of running around in the car this week, and I've
noticed that as time wore on my foot is getting heavier, and the more I'm on the road the less patient I am with other old coots who drive a mile less than the speed limit and hit the brake at the first hint of a yellow light.

130 is usually my speed on the Trans-Canada, depending on weather and traffic of course. And we already suspect what the moral part is all about, Naut. It's the copper's cash cow.

No it is a problem Naut a lot of our by-roads are now limited to 50 mph. It may seem slow but better than everyone trying to overtake on bendy roads. Of course in the old days especially at night one would pull into a bit wider road and let on an oncoming vehicle have enough room to pass. Now if we go further back but that means horses.
