TAPS

I think you may be exaggerating about not doing well with the decorating. I can tell you are a great cook just from some of the mentions in your blogs. The things you are talking about the colors etc of the 50's is back big time.

Well I don't really care what it looks like Taps. I do like it clean though and preferably a floor that can be brought up clean with a mop.

it's so much easier being a guy - there's less "does this look right" and more "does it work?"

I liked the lamps?

Each has their gifts and you have a home filled with love.  The decor does not matter in the grand scheme of things.  Some of our friends and relatives have homes like a picture out of a magazine.  Most do not feel comfortable in them because they watch you like a hawk and rarely do you feel comfortable sitting and enjoying self.

TAPS

That was a home you had decorated with parents kids and love. It couldn't have been anything but beautiful with you in it

I always enjoy going into others' houses and seeing how they decorated...I wonder how good of a decorator people think I am. I feel I did a good job with my house.

A great cook, a wonderful Mother, a true mate to your husband....a person in your own right who went back to school and carved out a career for herself. A person with courage who has faced tragedy and kept going forward. A special poet and writer.... and who made a house into a welcoming HOME!!!You done alright dear Taps. You done good!!

People's tastes change over the years, and sometimes the things you fell in love with, as far as home decor is concerned, may eventually begin to look somewhat old and/or dated. Nothing wrong with changing things up once in a while. And hey, I think that being a good cook will always trump being a good interior decorator . . .

Folks today get so much more input through tv and other media

to inform their basic sense of taste.  But as has been observed, you filled your house with family and love.  The best, most tasteful houses, are cold and drab without that.

And, good call, repainting...

I always appreciate my taste ..you should do so..

It must have been warm, welcoming and eclectic - aka perfect.

But family came and enjoyed your house because of the people in it, and not the decor. Still, I know how you feel, TAPS, because for this we are two of a kind. I can buy expensive pieces, and it looks all wrong. My daughter can get something at the dollar store, put it in just the right place, and it looks like a million bucks! I console myself that I am a great cook....but so is she.
