Those type of Facebook sites are fun to follow. There is one about long ago places in KC and it's fun to read what people remember.

Sounds like Pembroke, ON, here where we live, everybody knows everybody, except those of us are still newcomers.

Although we lament the disappearance of our local shops, don't we cause it ourselves? How many buy 'Made in China' just because it is cheaper, but not necessarily better? Mea culpa too, because my truck is made in Japan (have an excuse because of my DIL
), but I do my best to purchase from local Mom & Pop shops, or neighboring farmers whenever I can.

Sounds like Australia, Why I have to learn all over again the landmarks when I get back each time. And here too in Canada...Wallys World has expanded with such a big and cheaper grocery section, it is closing all the other food centers down. And i remember always in Australia the small toy shops crammed with everything for children. Comes along Toys R Us...so cheap, they closed all the toy shops then put their prices up!!

This post sounded like my home town! It is amazing how the familiar places have gone by the way side! Even in Boise things have dramatically in the last 15 years! I love your writing! sam

At twenty-eight years of age, I am amazed at how much things changed before I have even reached thirty...We have a lot of megastores too in my area.

American life used to be about living.
Now, it's about moving money.

Sometimes it is not so good to reminisce. Books A Million is not a "book" store! Yuck!
