Exactly. I learned that and about this in graduate school and most do not get it, I think it is because the politician and lobbyist work together for the big guy. They don't realize the big guy has more than enough already. They play on the ignorance of the masses by finding out what drives them. Then they convince them that the BIG MAN does not understand their plight. THEN destruction comes from the inside out from middle down. That is when the rich get richer and the poor get poorer because they believed what they heard and not what they saw, read or witnessed. As long as the masses are gullible and leaders gutless, nothing will change. Good post.

I have no answers. Everything you say is true and maddening and sad.

It really is rotten I know and not just in the USA. Wiley and I manage but we don't do anything extravagant...and health care is slow but it is free. I am blessed to have a Son who helps me to get back to Australia once a year...I helped him and now he helps me back ....I try not to rely on Government...I trust none of them.

The trouble is we are living too long Pat . Most pension schemes are bankrupt, the low interest rates do not cover the much needed payout. When you and I worked we probably helped support a sixth of a pensioner but there were ten of us . Now there are so many on benefits and probably treble the pensioners. It is not hard to work out what will happen eventually.

I know what you are saying, I gave up looking for good work that pays with all the thirty somethings out there on the hunt to compete with...The old person has limited opportunities so I do what I can on my own to make the ends meet.

Most of these big corporations had no idea they were shooting themselves in the foot, and screwing America at the same time, when they began to ship jobs overseas, only being interested in cheap labor that would end up lining their pockets! But I have read and heard of many companies trying desperately to actually reverse the trend and bring those jobs back! Only time will tell . . .

Oh dear
Pat, I really don't want to get started on this - only because it's a subject I could rant about for hours. Seriously, I have worn out several soap boxes on this topic.
Hubby and I were discussing Detroit last night, which ties into a lot of the things you mention here and, in my humble opinion, is a horrific example of what's to come for a big portion of America...

Ordinary citizens are eventually going to have to take action, rid themselves of greedy and foolish politicians, and force large corporations to deal honestly with the population. It will be a matter of putting food on the table. Actually, that's usually when mothers get involved, and mothers can do wonders!

Pat, thinking about your last post, changes, changes , changes.
It's shameful that folks worked so hard all of their lives and now have to worry about what will happen with the money they have managed to keep.
