This disorder is a very sad one for those who think they no longer need their meds and go off of them, because they are very often addicted to drugs or alcohol which just makes it that much worse.

I know someone who claims they have bipolar disorder, but I honestly don't fully understand it . . .

Correct.  I have many among my family and friends with the disorder and these are the foods they cannot be pulled away from like taking a baby off a bottle.  They become mean an intolerable. Ones who are happy drunks are miserable sober.  This is tough for those with the disease and those addicted by habit. Good information but like others those who need it will not read it.
