I live so far in the woods and have a well with a pump. I understand your frustration. Unfortunately those who have a lot will waste with not thought of impact on masses. There is just no way to regulate and only those with good hearts and minds can and wii understand to conservenfor the benefit of the whole or all. Lk

Re:

Well Jimmy we have plastic sealed  boxes for weekly waste food, society at large has a lot to answer for. I use mine to collect the garden waste for composting.

Re: I remember those white cabbage butterflies, and how they

Yes Pat and sparrows are quite handy little chaps eating greenfly, wasps will pick off the caterpillars when they are small. Some of the new sprays are fatty acids ,so Mum knew a trick or two.

Re: Naut

Perhaps you are more of a wild flower man Naut . I don't know about the cost involved to treat sea water in quantity, I suppose no one was worried when the supply met the demand. Rarely see a hawk, they are around but very skittish here.

Re: JAY

This time last year we were being flooded everywhere and told there would be no shortage of water, the powers that be change minds very quickly. There is there was talk of a hosepipe ban.

No but I think even the Water companies will realize eventually the error of their ways

It's always bothered me that some people are on a meter and others aren't - hardly seems fair, to make one person pay accurately for their usage, while others get to do what they please.

And your flower is beautiful!!

That is he most beautiful rose. We all are on water meters here and mine is over $100 per moth. It is totally outrageous. We are surrounded by water, still it is too costly. I loved the poem too. Be blessed and take good care of yourself.

We pay much for our water, living in a desert has its draw backs...We thank the rain gods for their visits.

love the Rose and a great Post...Usd to pay BIG water rates in Sydney but here we have the well and so we regulate ourselves how we use the water. and no rates. Lovely. So much rain the last few days, no need to put water around and my barrels are filled again.

Love your rose - roses are one of the few flowers I recognizes, aside from tulips and pansies, and...I think I'm running out, LOL...And speaking of running: I'll never understand how an island can run out of water, of all things! Yeah, I know it's salt water, but that's easily dealt with...And our hawks grab pidgeons all the time, at our bird feeders - it's not nice, but Nature, I guess...

Baltimore City has been having a lot of issues with its water meters...It is very interesting to read of the emotions one feels after particular events.

I remember those white cabbage butterflies, and how they

would get my mother up out of her chair at the kitchen table, running out to smack them with a flyswatter. Of course she couldn't guard the garden every hour of the day, but she waged a constant war with them. I remember she used to spray the rose bushes with soapy water (real soap made from beef tallow, not the detergent we use now) until she discovered that lady bugs will eat all the aphids that dare to approach.

Nobody wears white gloves anymore--at least that i ever see.  When I was little, all the women and girls wore white gloves to church, and pretty hats.  Now the women are just as likely to go in torn jeans.  That flower is a wonderfully delicate shade of pink.  How special.

That's actually not a bad idea to keep people from wasting anything . . . make it more expensive! The US could wipe out its national debt in no time if people were charged extra for the amount of food they waste and throw away in restaurants! People just love to take things for granted . . .
