Well, sometimes, anger can keep you safe. We're all vulnerable at times. Sometimes the pain can be "switched off," and sometimes it can't. Oh the pain I've seen . . .

You were many, but each alone. That lesson is over now. If you think about it, some gratitude is due because you lived it while young. Can you imagine if it happened the other way around?

People can close off when things get shocking and rough.  They may need the defenses for a while until they are with nicer people. It may not be a bad reaction if it can be shut down later.
