Well, lion, I can only hope that, at some point, you finally learned your lesson and decided to "walk down a different street!" She's out there somewhere . . .

And to make it worse, MsJudy, there are some people who never get it at all! Unfortunately, I actually know a few people who would probably keep falling into that hole over and over and over! Oh that elusive common sense . . .

That doesn't sound, Utah, like much of an endorsement for those smart cars!
But now answer me this: no injuries sustained after the initial impact with the car, but what happened after the car knocked you into the hole? Hmmm . . . ?

Re: JimmyA
You're probably right, Sir Wiley. Whether someone eventually chose another street to walk down or not, falling in a second time does say something about their character, as you so aptly put . . .

Re:
A "slow top," Kabu? I like that description! Yeah, someone would have to be somewhat slow, or at least easily distracted, to fall into that same hole! Perhaps he was too busy bullshitting on his cell phone . . .

I'm on my way, C C T. But if I do give you a hand up, do you promise to at least pick another street to walk down, or will I have to rescue you again at some point . . . ?

Re:
The trouble with that concept, FSI, is that sometimes it can be difficult to have much sympathy for anyone who keeps making the same mistakes over and over and over, never learning from them! How many times can you burn your fingers in the fire before you realize not to put your fingers in the fire? Sometimes a little common sense can go a long way . . .

Re:
A very good interpretation as well, Dr JPT. There were certain "acquaintances" I had known over the years that had trouble written all over them, and in most cases I was able to detach myself from them before tragedy struck. The one time I didn't, it cost me dearly ( a very long story ). However, I did learn from my mistake! Now, I never bother to try to "walk around the hole." I tend to pick another street . . .

Re:
That too, Mia. Sometimes people say "You should walk proudly with your head held high!" But in doing that, you may end up tripping over your own shoe laces! Me, I tend to walk while doing a 360 degree sweep of my entire surroundings, and that means looking down sometimes too! Quicksand pits are full of the skeletons of people who simply weren't paying attention . . .

Re:
The first one, sam, may not be your fault. Anything after that could be. Yeah, there's probably great shame in "falling" for something that had already burned you once! Live and learn . . .

Re:
That's true too, lustor. I don't know how many times someone may fall into that same hole before they either walk all the way around it, or pick another street. Some people seem doomed to repeat negative patterns . . .

Re:
It could be, adnohr. There's an old Groucho Marx saying that goes: "You can only fool a firefly twice!" Some people put their hand into a fire and get burned, can't believe it actually happened, and then stick their hand in the fire again just to make sure. I guess we're supposed to "learn" from our mistakes . . .

Re:
I guess that's one way to look at it, mariss. Some people might take the time to "fix" the hole, others may look to simply circumvent the hole, while others tend to avoid the hole altogether! It's all a matter of interpretation . . .

Went for a walk down the street, avoided the hole again and got hit by a smart car...No injuries to me, but the car was totaled...I fell in the hole.

So this totally slow minded person takes two lots of injuries to get it that he should watch where he walks and even then it takes him another trip before deciding to take a different route. So of course, one cannot expect such a slow top to consider getting the problem fixed either by himself, or by the right department to do it.

Facing obstacles, learning the first time or second then learning to put up a wall to keep that particular event/person from continuing to wreak havoc is what I gather from this post.

I'm rather clumsy, so can certainly relate to the falling and injuries...but I think that's maybe not what you were getting at!
An excellent way to convey the message that it's important to learn from your experiences! And also, to watch where you're walking...

Another annoying fix-it like so many of mine. At least the person can eventually learn, but he ought to report the hole and have it fixed. I have so many I tend to delay them, which I have had to crack down on and start fixing before it gets more serious. Like my air going completely out before I reported it, although it gave an excuse to sleep with fans and cool air since I had the fortune of the night suddenly turning cooler than usual.
