I think I'm about 50 - 50 on the proper use of commas, although I find semi colons worse...and as fae as "all right" is concerned, thanks for the reminder.

I did not care for grammar lessons. I liked math and science without the comma rules. I think I put them in where not needed out of attempts to look good. Good post to think about when or when not to put a comma.

The rule I remember is "when in doubt leave it out."

I have noticed too that commas nowadays tend to get minimized. As for any comma rules that I was taught, I cannot think of anything that was flat out wrong or something that was utilized for an unusual situation.
