Re:

It's a very nice area to vacation, mariss. That's why we go every year! But you're absolutely right . . . no matter how much we enjoy it, there's just no place like home!

"there's no place like home"  Still sounds like a great trip with some detective work towards the end. Sounds like a good area to vacation.

Re:

Interesting concept, C C T. Mother Nature causes some kind of natural disaster, which may or may not kill a few dozen people, causes massive power-outages leaving people with very few options as far as "entertainment" is concerned, and then the next thing you know, there's a slight population explosion! A strange cycle indeed! Yes, I'm a very good tipper, if the occasion calls for it, and the wallet can bear it . . .

Re:

Just a slight bummer, MsJudy. Fortunately, if something like this was meant to happen, at least it happened during our final night there. Although we were enjoying ourselves, by then we were already kinda looking forward to coming home and getting into our own bed anyway! And boy did we sleep well that night! And yeah, I don't mind getting "a little color" during the summer months, but when you burn, it's so painful and uncomfortable! I just have to be more careful ( I'm such a white boy! ) . . .

Re: Sounds like a great trip!

That's true, Mia. When my wife and I first began these anniversary trips to Cape May, we had stayed in various bed & breakfasts, then we tried a different motel. If there was even the slightest disappointment, we tried something else the following year. We actually love this particular hotel, and have now been using them for the past six years. This was the only time something like this had ever happened. We will return next year! Yes, it was a great trip . . .

Well Jimmy I hope you feel better for your holiday, at least it makes one appreciate home as you say. Funny about the pregnancies , wonder if it nature's way of increasing the population after a disaster. Hope you gave the waiter a tip.

All in all it did sound as though you had a good vacation, nice hotel, beautiful beach view swimming, etc.  The burn wasn't good, but everytime I go on vacation I get burnt, so I can relate!  The alarm and no sleep that was a real bummer!

Sounds like a great trip!

Too bad about the alarm(s) waking you up, but at least it was only one night! And I agree with you about not bothering to ask for a discount in this situation - stuff like that can happen to even the best hotels, and it sounds like you guys have a good relationship with this place. No sense in creating tension over a minor (annoying) incident!

Re:

Probably the real unfortunate side, Dr JPT, is that those alarms could have been "crying wolf!" Both times it was due to faulty circuits or connections or whatever, but what if it had been an actual fire by the third alarm? People might have thought it was yet another false alarm, and who knows what might have happened then! A lovely trip with one minor inconvenience. Since nothing like that had ever happened to us at this particular hotel before, I guess I'll take it . . .

Bittersweet. Those alarms are not good!

Re:

It actually is for us too, TAPS. I mean, we really do enjoy our getaways, the change of pace, the change of scenary, the relaxing, the special dinners, the romantic walks on the beach and other activities. But there's absolutely nothing like coming home to familiar surroundings and comforts. Yes, home is where the heart is . . .

Re:

That could be it, Utah. But I'm going to go ahead and assume that these ladies got into the condition they are in long before they made to any balconies! As for my wife and me, well, we usually let the wine dictate how much sleep we might get anyway . . .

Re: We had a similar thing happen to us.a few years back...

I had a feeling, Rumor, that our little incident was probably not unique, but it was a first for us. I suppose, at the very least, we should be thankful it wasn't an actual fire! Who knows what would have happened then . . .

Re:

There really isn't, Troosha. When you're on vacation and staying in a strange bed in a strange setting, it's somewhat difficult to sleep anyway. But when you get home to your own sheets and pillows, it's like pulling off those tight, uncomfortable dress shoes and slipping on your old, worn-out sneakers! Aahhhh . . .

Re: Jimmy

Well, Naut, it really wasn't anybody's fault directly, and this was the first incident of its type we've had since we've been staying at this particular hotel ( six years and counting ). So I guess we can "forgive and forget." But if it happens again next year, you can bet that I'll be asking for some kind of compensation . . .

Re:

Thanks, FSI. We really did have a wonderful time, in spite of our rude awakening. I had heard about the rise in pregnancies during power outages before too, but this was the very first time I was seeing the end result en masse! I mean, one or two preggos would have been one thing but, like I wrote, there were literally dozens all over the place! A somewhat bizarre sight indeed . . .

Re:

That would be nice, Kabu, but I don't think such a thing would be offered. I didn't even bother to ask. Believe it or not, as returning customers, we are already receiving a 25% discount on our room. Given the overall price, that's actually pretty substantial. And since this is the first time something like that has happened since we've been staying there, I guess we can forgive them one night's interupted sleep! It was still a romantic getaway indeed . . .

Re:

It does seem that way sometimes, doesn't it lustor? I guess if there's no power, no TV, very little heat, and very little to do, there's always, well, you know . . .

Coming back home has always been, for me, the best part of any trip/vacation.

I think it is sitting on the balconies drinking wine that makes all the women the way they are...You know, with child...Good thing you two went to sleep lol.

We had a similar thing happen to us.a few years back...

It was a cool autumn night in London, Ontario (about 2 hrs from home) and the fire alarm in the hotel we were staying at suddenly went off...everyone had to evacuate, but it was all for naught - a false alarm...still had fire trucks and police show up in droves...when they finally allowed us to return to our rooms, there's no way we could get back to sleep....

posted by Rumor on June 26, 2013 at 3:26 PM | link to this | reply

Other than the alarms going off, sounds like a nice "get-away" but you're right... there's nothing like getting home to your own bed.

Jimmy

Well, it's nice that you had a great time, except for the last night! Maybe you should ask them to re-imburse you for that night...

I am glad to read that you had a nice trip...That was a lot of excitement there with the fire alarm...I remember during a high school psychology course that I observed as a student teacher, my mentor teacher bringing up that pregnancies increase from their norm when the power is out.

love your final observation...LOL...Welcome back and it reads like a wonderful Romantic get away....but I would be asking for some sort of refund for that last night...perhaps one fee night next year!!!1

not a way I want to be woke up especially at those hours.  I know it seems more kids are born after some snow storm that last for months
