I agree the tree would have been better left there if it was still healthy at all.  There are so many trees that can be used that do not have such beautiful memories that go with them.  I am glad you can still remember.

Jay...

We had a big old elm tree much like Grandpa's tree...it shaded the entire house...it was an old tree when we moved in here, so we were lucky to have it as long as we did...an ice storm brought down half of it a few years ago, and we had no choice but to cut down the remainder..your poem is a good reminder of the many things a tree can do for us.....

perhaps...but in some parts of Greece i have seen where the roads are moved

away or around an old Olive tree maybe a thousand years old.
