It sounds like the two agents have lost track of who they're working for...I'd say they are trying to "one-up" each other but in the process are looking very "out-to-lunch".

For now I would not spend more money on that place! And Ciel's idea is definitely worthwhile, and you should pursue it! Any lawyer who specializes in real estate should be able to give you some initial advice...

Some people in this are probably crooked for it to go this stupid. You seem to do better when you contact the sellers yourself. Maybe another house would be best if they hem and haw and play games one more time yet. They could, as you said before, be holding out for a higher bid and more money and just kick you out when they get it. It seems to victimize a person less to lose patience with what appears to be shady dealings when one has other options.

What a nightmare!
Have you spoken with a real-estate attorney about this? Some attorneys give a first interview for free, and can let you know if you can, at this point, fire the agent, and what you can do next.

I don't know what's going on, but you must be exhausted with all
this. The good thing is, it'll take a day to put everything back in storage if necessary. One way or another this ordeal will soon be behind you. Keeping fingers crossed that it works out the way you want it to.
