I agree with you. This not good at times for it can turn to worry rather than just self checking.

I only worry about what I say because in the end I am the one who will be held accountable for what I say! I can remember what others say but not to the degree that I would bet the farm on it! LOL! sam

Well Doc. I am sorry to say telling untruths comes natural to me. I have to put it down to
my wartime experience having to blatantly declare we have no bananas or tins of salmon etc. They were all reserved for special customers.

I must be honest. My memory on words exchanged or heard is not always good. So I keep in mind that listening carefully helps not selective listening/hearing.

Dr
I do remember that I used to remember very well whole conversations. Now that I have earned a certain age for myself I am doing very well to remember if I said anything andto whom it was when.

I have, or should I say I had a good memory, but a small stroke took much of that away, good thing I have a good wife to remind of the things I know.

Good point but it is unequal with me. I do not like to over load my brain so I just do not pay attention to all words.

I agree with that philosophy. I actually use it and did not think of it in exact word.

I believe that I remember what I say but as I get older I am not so sure
these days. It is just that old short term memory loss thing. I can remember from years ago but not so easy from today.

With me it's very much a matter of context and importance. When it is important and I pay attention, I can remember large stretches of back-and-forth conversations very well! But when it's just idle chatter, it's in one ear and out the other with me...

I find that I remember both what I said and what others said equally well. At times I do forget which stems from it being impossible to remember everything or to be completely focused at the time.

My philosophy on remembering is pretty much as the old Irish blessing:
"May you never forget what is worth remembering, nor ever remember what is best forgotten."
