In our city empty cans and bottles are recycled, at great expense of course, but it makes us feel virtuous...And the poem reminds me that the little pains inflicted on us in childhood are actually enormous at that age...

Re: Jimmy
Well seems like the teachers get the sack if they clip a kid's ear these days, not likely.
Can never forget that vision of your dad cycling up town to get you a treat I would tell your Mum about it if you have never done so or she might have forgotten. Of course she may have gone home now.

Nothing wrong with the smell of "clean," regardless of whether or not it's lemony! And do you suppose they'll bring back caning . . . ?

OK have a race to see who picks the first beans, no cheating mind and no force feeding.
I think some days one just feels a bit downtrodden. Now I must go and give the beans their daily drink the ground is dry although it has been quite chilly. Chin up.

Re: Pat...
Good thinking Pat I do recycle my jars and bottles . I do put newspapers on the chair seats because the cat jumps up on them if I go upstairs, she jumps off as soon as I come into the room and looks innocent.

So Janey hasn't learned the potential value of some of these empty containers eh? Well, she might yet, some day.
..and ouch! We had a few teachers who whacked knuckles with a yardstick.

(I've posted 2 installments of "Shortcut"...Gus and the pigs story..I know you've read it already, so if you don't this time around, I understand)

My friend let Jenny do her thing and you tend the plants. She will not be a harm. I was blessed not to have lived in the war although I was very conscious of all that the news provided. I would have been a very frightened child had it come here.

How sad that a boy cannot just accept a stranger's candy...
but it has probably always been so. Always that little bite of danger in the most innocent chance encounter. I'm happy to hear that Janey's helping you fight the urge to save those things you "might need some day" and avoid the label of hoarder. In recent weeks I've taken on Janey's role and cleared out emptied and washed peanut butter jars and other potentially useful recyclable items. It's a load off my mind.
The flowers are so pretty.

Reading about Janye made me think about college when the bathrooms smelled often of different cleaning products...It is interesting reading of those school experiences.

I'm glad you feel like writing today!
I've gotten in the habit of looking for your little posies and gems.
She throws away cat food tins? Lemonade bottles? She must be unimaginative... though a very good cleaner.
The adult world does awful things to a child's open heart and eager mind. I suppose it has always been that way. There are no reliable manuals on child-rearing, and from our own rearings, our own communication with our inner knowings are also messed up.
I'm happy there is hope for your potatoes. My scarlet runner beans now number 6 sprouts!
