As long as he does not disclose our CIA friends or put any Americans in danger I will consider him an American hero.

I agree with JimmyA. Actions by any Individual must consider the greater good. If more will be hurt or harmed due to individual action, do not do! To me it is like tattling in grade school. Is the reporting for self satisfaction and busy body activity? Was it reported to one person in authority to help a person who is harmed? The thinking process must be in tact as you mentioned. Thought provoking post.

This story reminds me very much of a similar situation back in the 70's, when a young man working for the Defense Dept. observed the American involvement with a governmental coup erupting in Australia, and thought that our overbearance and domination was just a little too extreme. As a form of protest, he began to sell government secrets to the Russians through their embassy in Mexico with the aid of a childhood friend. They made a movie out of their experiences entitled "The Falcon & The Snowman," which starred Timothy Hutton and Sean Penn. Check it out, if you ever get the chance. The overall scenario is very similar.

As for Mr. Snowden's situation, a part of me can easily understand his angst, and his disenchantment, with our governement and their actions. But if, in his own form of "protest," he puts a huge percentage of our population at risk, then he is definitely wrong! No traitor, no hero . . . just plain wrong!
