Yep, it's another D-Day anniversary, and I was watching another documentary about it. And I was reminded again of the fact that it ended up as the only 'Good War' in recent history, as opposed to WWI and anything else that came later...

That was glib...
But in my mind's eye are young men in uniforms running up onto the beach... It's hard to think about all that death, the endings of so many lives, so many futures cut short, potentials evaporated. From there, to other wars, other masses of lives sacrificed to political and cultural differences.

and the newsreels at the movies were in black and white.
