Sorry about the mess! And you're right . . . as long as there is power to see the hockey playoffs, almost nothing else matters!

Good Luck!

Although it sounds like you're more than capable of handling a tough situation without luck!  Money and family generally don't mix well, but it sounds like you're acting in kindness and no one ever goes wrong with that!!

I hope I do too.

It's a bit diffcult with my grandson trying to keep 2 now.

I had left the rent low when he moved in because he was hardly ever there, and it didn't show at all on the bill. But when his GF moved in -  well - a female uses far more electricity, plus she's pregnant so not working. The best plan I think is to give them their own meter - it will avoid alienating family over money.

I thought mine was over-estimated, but the Company said no.

They are just kids, so have no concept of what it costs. And they still won't even if it's turned off. They'll just go and stay at her dad's place until I can afford to get it turned back on. They did that each time last winter when storms disrupted the power. Grrr. I plan to put a seperate meter down there.

I did chat to them, Naut

Especially when I discovered that she was doing laundry with HOT water too!! She's very young, and I do believe her mom didn't show her much. The damage is done now though, and I still have to go down and shut off all the lights each time they leave.

Congratulations, Jay!! A lovely granddaughter to come!!

My tenants (the same ones who wasted such much of the electricity) will be presenting me with my first great grandchild sometime in October.

Re: I know you will handle this, I just can't believe that people won't pay you

Unfortunately no, Kabu. My grandson just started back working last week, and his little lady stopped as soon as she got pregnant. It being family, it's a delicate situation.

Re: The essence of problem-solving

I had better - or the neighbors will be putting up with the noise from the generator, LOL!

Back to your question on my post, the little glass hole is the top of the bottle when empty, so yes you were right in line with your thinking.

adnohr...

You're right..We're lucky to live in Canada and get to experience all four seasons...there are special little treats in all of them...Mother Nature's good (usually)....Hope you get the electricity problem sorted out....

Perhaps you could change the rent agreement to include a share of

the utility bill. We tend to be more careless when the landlord pays the lights and water.

I know the feeling Adnohr, Every time my brother comes in he switches on heaters. People are very generous with heat when they do not pay the bill. You need a pay as you go meter for everyone else's use. My bill was underestimated this quarter I rang up to sort it out and had to pay another 130 pounds just to keep out of debt.

I'M A DELINQUENT!

Oh my I think if I'd gotten a utility bill for 690 dollars for one month I would have died right there of a heart attack!  Goodness me!  :) lbj

I know you've handled problems much more difficult than that, and in the end you'll solve this one too, but it's still annoying as hell! And I would definitely have a chat about sweaters with the relevant parties...

The apples and lilacs have all passed by the wayside down here. I know what you mean about not using more energy that you need, but it is so hard to teach this to those who don't pay the bills, good luck with that. I hope you get your money, we live on $1500.00 a month right now and just lost $450.00 for some unknown reason, this will be bad for my future blogit use, but the good news is that we will be new grandparents again as our daughter will give birth on Thursday to a new baby girl...Thanks for all the smiles, there nice to have way down here in Utah.

Oh my one thing you are so right about is good things come at the last minute so often. God says he will meet all your needs and I can tell you from experience he has met ours so many times when things were right down to he wire. I am praying that for you. That is all I can do but God can do anything.

I know you will handle this, I just can't believe that people won't pay you

what they owe. I have said a prayer for your dilemma and can the yound ones in the basement pay a little more each week??

posted by Kabu on May 25, 2013 at 1:03 PM | link to this | reply

The essence of problem-solving

is not giving up, not assuming the inevitable, but finding legitimate ways around other people's barricades.  You should be able to handle this, no problem.
