Yes, there's a strong possibility that Ben was perceptive enough to realize that you never wanted to hurt him in any way, and of course he may have sensed that. But there is one other possibility . . . is there a chance that Bennie may just have a small crush on the vet nurse, and was looking forward to seeing her and having her remove those bandages? Hey, ya never know . . .

Dogs like Ben are great, they bring joy and a sense of wonder
back into a life that has been touched by dark fingers.

I expect you are right Naut, we have probably lost many instinctive ways and what might be a natural phenomenon to Ben has been lost in our new adoptive life style. We may not ignore heavy. what one might call warnings. The little subtle nuances are probably ignored by most.

I had to read back and catch up ...poor little Ben, sometimes a big black
Lab. can turn nasty like that. I am so relieved that this tail tale of woe is going to turn out alright for Ben and for you.
