Good piece of advice
I would say that I think it's a great piece of advice.
There are so many problems to solve in the world, but one person can't solve them all. Especially not other people's problems.
When I was younger I was also one of those who wanted to help everybody else solving their problems. At least till the day I woke up and realized, I had my own "demons" to fight.

We say don't take the Micky but that means don't make fun of me. Well we used to say it but you just reminded me. Or don't take the wee wee, or more vulgar examples in the forces.

Don't take the Monkey
Isn't it wild how those types of things get passed on down from generation to generation?!
