Once upon a time most would have to own up to incompetence or wrong doing...and fix it. It seems using a good excuse is often all that's expected now. Then again....one can't fix stupid.

I'm in total agreement with you, except in one particular area. You say this type of behavior is prevalent throughout history, and probably isn't much worse today. I say it is! Where the actual blame lies is subjective of course, and could be debated from now til the end of time! Perhaps, as I've gotten older, I'm just a little more cognisant of the ignorance and incompetence of some of my fellow citizens, as well as the selfishness, rudeness and inconsideration many people have of others. If I had to lay the blame somewhere, I would place it scarely on "modern technology," which I think has actually made people dumber rather than smarter, ruder rather than more polite, and annoying rather than considerate! -whew!- Okay, I'm done . . .

Hi Ciel I wonder if it is the environment that we live in that determines most attitudes
most children are subjected to a society that searches for the next plaything. Neighbours are strangers in many cases. Surprisingly it takes a catastrophe to meld folk together.

Yes, it does. What's more, it's going to get even worse...

You are not only a very intelligent person, you are a good person who wants things to be right. That is a difficult position to be in because it will never again be as it was and as we want it to be.
