I always did think that there should be a special check-out bay for people of a certain age (my age, LOL).   I like that greenhouse pic.  I love stuff like that.

Lovely greenhouse, very workmanlike.

As for the streak of white... trubble afoot!

Re: Ciel

We like to freeze them Ciel, well my brother does to make things in the winter and we use the smaller cherry type because of the flavour. I can always give the surplus away.

I think as I said it was an excuse to take time off from school, a bit of a harsh experience  and I remember it spoiled my shoes.

Re:

As soon as the sun shines we have to slap a white wash on the Glass Sam or it burns the plants, I suppose they are not used to it over here.

Yes I think it is all automated now, I have done the same worked at jobs because I liked doing it at the time, but the fun goes out of it eventually.

Re: Naut

Not had much luck with melons Naut, but you make me feel like I wouldn't mind a slice.

Surprising what one did to escape school for a day or two.

When you have complaints, it's always best to bypass the rest, go straight to the top, and it won't be a flop...

And I do like your greenhouse, although for the summer I'd probably grow water melons...

And my back is aching just thinking about picking potatoes - I'd say to hell withn the shilling...

your greenhouse looks so neat and tidy, and the plants look healthy.  sometimes we dont adopt dogs they adopt us.  i thought it was brilliant you asking to be checked out, maybe if more people did that they would open another lane.

potatoes use to be one of my favorite foods, i dare say if i knew all the hardships of getting produce to the markets i would be a lot thinner. how awful for a young man to work so hard and lose part of his pay.  i have done that so many times, take a job only to realize maybe i should not have taken it, in fact that is my situation right now.

just getting to yesterdays post

I would have been tempted to want to adopt the terrier too.  They are so cute and appealing.  The potato days sounds like rough ones, it reminds me of my home business fiascos to the point of being childish enough to think they would work with my resources. At least, you didn't get a parking ticket when you were running your errands.  That set-up looks quite elaborate, like it was some work.

Almost makes you appreciate potatoes a little bit more, doesn't it? And don't worry about looking foolish as we get older. In fact, "advanced age" may be the perfect excuse for making a fool of oneself! People are usually more forgiving when it's a senior citizen . . .

I like seeing the greenhouse in the initial stages! Yesterday I was over to the local high school and got some plants the students had started! I was amazed how hot it got inside with such mild temperatures outside! I do think we care less about what we do as we get older as long as we get the desired results! When I was reading your poem I kept thinking about my state after all we are the potato state! LOL! sam

Are you going into the tomato business?

That seems like a lot of tomatoes!  I was walking once, in a town in Italy. Did that a lot, just walking down interesting streets.  I passed a huge greenhouse that was more red than green, with tomatoes... and I took a picture. Much later, having the image up on a screen, I saw very far down in the rows was an elderly man, tending them.

Picking potatoes for a lost shilling...  Life is full of little lessons.
