good post

i enjoyed reading this and the words, find god, do not expect him to be who you or your friends want him to be, that really said something to me.

Literal, rhetorical, figuratve and symbolic use of language changes the interpretation of the words by the cultural experiences of the receiver.

Re: jimmyA

interesting -- you came from a background involved in religion - discovered a path to enlightenment

what does it tell me?  the universe and the god that it is is unfathomable -- humans want a god that empowers certain humans to rule over others

I have a concept regarding this involving the Tree of the Knowledge of Good and Evil

I have little doubt that every word, every passage, every piece of scripture we now read was written and conceived by Man, and over time, has changed and morphed several times. Like a Rubick's Cube, things can be twisted this way and that, until it fits in such a way as someone wants it to fit. Organized religion is all about controlling the masses, and much of the laws and commandments handed down were designed to do just that! I was a part of a Christian Brothers society for a few years, and learned a great deal about the theology involved with the writing of the Bible. Lessons taught, lessons learned, and here we are, hundreds of years later, still trying to figure out what it's all about! What does that tell you . . . ?

Re: Some folks say that God "inspired" all that writing,

very true

there is much inspired there

but even the scriptures tell us that god speaks to us in a halting stuttering voice -- here a little, there a little

so that much is human perception there, from a limited human point of view -- people whose perception was limited  - the key of course is to expand perception

discover god instead of assuming that god is what you want it to be

Some folks say that God "inspired" all that writing,

But even if it was inspired, even if the communication came from a Divine Source, it still had to get through the muck and mire, the swamp of belief systems that is a human mind.
