Wow, that's a lot to digest! The late great George Carlin once quipped that "if truth and honesty were ever introduced into the political arena, the entire system would collapse!" Makes sense to me, and that's why none of these scenarios are very surprising! But I do hate it when someone . . . anyone . . . who's supposed to be in a position to pass on vital information between various government agencies ( foreign or domestic ) either purposely distorts the truth, or else simply doesn't know what they're talking about . . .

This is difficult. I have witnessed truth has little effect on outcome after the fact. Arrogant people are like dictators. Nothing said or done changes their agenda for fear and brain washing rules and reigns.

I believe Wednesday's hearing will uncover many things, if the congress will ask some good questions. They are not the best at interrogation. I am hoping a real case will be exposed and brought to the justice it deserves. I responded to your comment about the NH I think you would be great. Check out what I said in the last blog.

I will never understand
the politicians' seemingly pathological need to lie. Not just in this case, but across the board. Double talk, misleading statements, outright dishonesty...nonsense!
When you're in a public position, I think the expectation is that everyone is listening to everything you say. I can't figure out how they can lie and assume they'll get away with it. Surely they realize that, at some point, the truth will come out and they'll end up looking like idiots, or jerks (or both...).
Although, at the end of the day, do they face any real consequences for lying?? By the time we figure out the truth, the damage is done and it's usually irreversible. They'll get a slap on the wrist, at best.
To your point about American politics and foreign vs. in-house policy: As a Canadian, I pay equal attention to both. While their national decisions do not directly influence my life, being their neighbour is like sleeping next to an elephant; I like to know what the pachyderm is plotting...

I too wonder what the impact on the election would have been had the truth come out. I do not know enough to say.
