The mystique of that route even reached out into the Great White North, and I've always wanted to drive it, but never got a round twit, as the saying goes. And although it may still happen, I realize of course that much of the old charm is gone...

My introduction to route 66 was in 1953 when, at age 16, I traveled from south of Kansas City, MO to Flagstaff, AZ where we got off of it and went down to Phoenix. It was a blast. Loved every bit of it. Didn't do it again until about 1965. Some of the old stuff was still there then.

I think every little community has such a motel - the 'siesta' place. Interesting post on the area - I can remember (vaguely) watching that Route 66 program.
