Taps

Oh my that could pose a problem choosing between being very hospitable to the birds or enjoying your deck. You will work it out successfully I am sure. Blessings.

taps

we have fire ants here in the south, but they dont come inside, so i cant say i have an ant problem.

we have lots of honey bees, because our neighbors have hives.  but we never have a stinging problem . i have the large bumble bees that they call wood bees, but they also do not seem to be aggressive.

now the wasps are different, especially the yellow jackets, they are terribly aggressive. i have seen antique wasps catchers and i believe if you google you can learn how to make one out of a plastic soda bottle.  and yes they do work.

bird dodo, oh my i bought a swing and when it was new it had a little awning over the top but the wind got to it and ripped it apart, now the birds dodo on my swing cushions and i forget to take them in with me so that doesnt happen, so now i do not use the swing.

we used to be plagued by ants every spring...but since we had the place treated for termites...no more....i think they were also eating the bait as well as the termites

The beauty of the woods is worth it then? ... as long as your prepared. I've only had to deal with one wasp nest on my fence (back patio)in 8yrs,  and maybe spraying for ants out front of my townhouse. It's all the fallen leaves after the fall that I dred picking up, again, and again and again..... lol. Poop on the deck... now that would not be fun. Good luck with those pests when they do come back.

Naw, you haven't heard anything until you've heard a dense, determined woodpecker hammering away against something metallic! You wouldn't be sure whether or not to try and help him be on his way, or simply throw something at him . . .

I've never seen a plastic fake wasp nest, and in this era of

honeybee die-off I hate to eliminate any pollinator - but the darn things sting like crazy. Ants I'm not so reluctant to discourage.

Re: Re: adnohr

I bought mine at Giant Tiger - I don't know if you have those stores in USA? I expect any hardware store would have them. If you can't find one, email me and I'll find another and send it along.

Re: adnohr

I never heard of such a thing.  I need one.  Actually I could use more than one.  Son #3 is having lots of wasp trouble at his place.   Where on earth do you get such a thing?

I had a problem with wasps building a nest under my gallery. More than one person, and the dogs, were stung just by walking near there. I bought one of those fake, plastic yellow nests, filled it with a mixture of sugar and water as per the directions, and hung it on the outside light nearest the nest. It worked!!! Thw wasps crawl in there, can't get out, and drown. It didn't take quite a week and no more of the pesky little things. They moved to safer locations.

Be careful Taps I once approached a wasps nest with a spray of insecticide and they

just started to attack me before I could begin. I know the birds do make a mess I have shifted my feeders back into a bush or two to try to stop this, although we usually get enough rain to keep it in check.

Re: Ciel

Hey!  That's worth a try.  I think we have some here somewhere.

Grey tape, laid where trails are, sticky side up, can discourage ants,

or so I hear.

I had an ant problem this year...Thankfully, they've gone away. As far as anything else with nature goes, everything has been smooth.
