I actually prefer science-fiction books above anything else! Dick was good, as was Heinlein and Asimov, but my all-time favorite author ( period ) is Alan Dean Foster. If you're ever feeling experimental, pick up his book Sentenced To Prism. You won't be disappointed . . .

Guess I can scratch him off the list...
It's almost a relief to know that I'm not missing much by missing this particular author!
Stephen King is the one writer whose style puts me instantly into a coma. Love his stories and his twisted mind, but just can't seem to get into his books.

Some sci-fi writers bore the heck out of me, like Heinlein
who gives Dick a run for his money...I can usually read anything, too, but some books belong in the "sleep aid" section of the med cabinet.

My dad, a scientist, didn't read much sci fi, but he did say,
really good sci fi, you can't tell where the science ends and the science fiction begins.
I read BLADE RUNNER after seeing the movie. They were not the same. A lot, not.
One of my favorite Phillip K. Dick quotes: Reality is that which, when you ignore it, doesn't go away.

Pat
Being a bit of a ‘real science’ aficionado, the ‘fake science’ often peddled in sci fi books often annoys me. Mind you, I just recently reread H.G. Wells’ The Time Machine, prompted by a reference to it in one of Mark Steyn’s books, After America. While the science is, of course, ridiculous, it’s kind of fun in other respects, and brought back memories, so it wasn’t a complete waste of time. And when I can download free books into my Kindle, I’ll read almost anything...
