Re: JimmyA

Really, Bill? Scenarios similar to the one I described? I'm not sure if my personal psyche could have handled more than one of those! But I think I would rather have had a hawk circling above me than have a black bird sitting and staring at me . . .

BI saw an adult hawk soar over a supermarket parking lot. To answer your question, many Jimmy.  BC-A, Bill’s R®st

Re:

Actually, Mia, "scary" movies were never really my thing, nor was I ever a fan of the X-Files. Twilight Zone and Night Gallery, NOW you're talking!  I sometimes like the wee hours of the morning too, but I think at 3am I'm "dead" to the world! Quiet and still . . . good. Creepy . . . bad!

I've felt something similar before, usually at 3am (my favourite time of day). But it's never creepy - just quiet, and still.

Sorry your experience was more on the X-files side of things - perhaps you have been watching too many scary movies?!?

Re: Back in the 50's when I was a kid...

I have a feeling, Rumor, that your actions would have been repeated by almost anyone else! I think I too may have experienced something similar one time, and there's a good chance that afterward I found a new shortcut home! I'm not much of a hero either! The cemeteries are filled with "brave" people . . .

Re:

I can see that, mariss. Yes, sometimes certain animals get "stereotyped" as something ominous or evil, and I guess calling a flock of crows a murder doesn't help! I honestly don't know what that particular incident may have been all about, or if that crow was a sign of anything or not. Like I wrote, it felt like impending doom the rest of the day, but fortunately nothing happened . . .

Back in the 50's when I was a kid...

there was a field I would take as a shortcut home from my friend's house to mine...I'll always remember one particular trip home, it was dark, and out of no where I got the feeling I was being followed...I could actually hear the swish of the grass, and it wasn't my swish!  I'd stop walking and whatever or whoever it was would do likewise..but I never saw anything.  It was unnerving though, and I decided running the rest of the way home was the best part of valor that night....

I have had many disturbing phenomenon that I find too impossible to describe.  My experience with ravens and crows has been positive; they seem to follow me and act as companions of sorts to warn me of things.  Maybe it was something like that, and nothing came of it, after all.  I know they can have a bad side, but I seem to have experineced their good side.

Re:

To be perfectly honest, adnohr, I liked your experience better than mine too! That's actually a very touching story, one that I must share with my wife, because I'm sure she would have done the exact same thing, and would probably have had the exact same sensations. That "higher plane of life" does exist all around us and is something we all share, sometimes positively, sometimes negatively. Yours was definitely positive . . .

Re: JimmyA

Well, Sir Wiley, since I don't really drink, and it was 7:00 in the morning of a work day, I can guarantee you that I was dead cold sober! However, a part of me almost wishes I was a little tipsy! It probably would have been a lot easier to have dealt with later in the day . . . !

Re:

It does TAPS, sound like something that someone might actually dream up instead of experiencing first hand! If it had been a dream, I think it would have been just a little easier to deal with, as opposed to standing in the middle of that parking lot experiencing it in real time! So, do I get any credit for a Deathbird intro . . . ?

Re:

So what are you telling me, FSI? That you did have a similar experience but with a possum or a snake or a squirrel as opposed to a bird? I'm just kiddin'. I don't think the animal involved was quite the issue. I think that that unusual moment in time was simply punctuated by that creepy, glaring bird . . . !

Re:

I'm actually glad to hear that, lustor! Yes, I'm quite familiar with the Hitchcock classic The Birds! But I have a feeling that the scenario may have been a little less traumatic if their had been a whole flock sitting up there as opposed to just that one, lone bird staring back at me! Spooky . . .

Re: Jimmy

Well, Naut, I always thought that my imagination was somewhat vivid, but not to the point where my mind could create something that would nearly give me a heart attack! I honestly hope you don't ever experience anything like that! Rod Serling could be hiding right around the corner . . .

Re:

It really was somewhat unnerving, sam! Although people may not remember the specific incident, I had a feeling that others may have experienced a moment in time like that, with or without the bird! Twas eerie indeed . . .

I have had a similar experience, although the moment's feeling was exactly the opposite of menacing. On my way to work at 5 AM one winter morning, along my bush road. I always drive slow along there because of the deer, but this morning, out of nowhere, came a clear command to STOP. I obeyed, and onto the road ran a very tiny, very young deer, quick enough that I would never have seen him in time, and small enough that even touching him with my bumper would have hurt him. Then came another little tyke, then a larger doe, and finally, a bigger one yet. She hesitated before crossing, saw that I wasn't moving, then followed the others. I sent her a message 'Be careful here. It's dangerous crossing.' She stopped at the edge of the road, and turned to look at me. There was a moment of compete silence - car radio and the hum of the heater faded into nothing; I was lost in our shared glance into each other's eyes. Enveloped in a warm, swirling embrace, I heard her soft, silky voice say 'thank you', felt her  loving appreciation as we spent that moment on a plane of life higher than where we ordinarily exist. I'll never forget it. It took a second after she continued on her way among the trees, before I realised how quiet everything was. As in your case, I could suddenly hear the radio and the heater again. I have to admit I ike my experience better than yours.

Were you like dead cold sober though mate? LOL

That sounds like a good beginning for one of The Deathbird stories.
I've never experienced anything like that, or even dreamed it.

That was quite the eerie experience there...Fortunately, I have not had anything like what you had with the bird there.

it must of taken you back in time to the movie The Birds  No I have never experienced anything even close to that

I've never had a similar experience - I guess my imagination just isn't vivid enough, LOL...

I couldn't recall a specific time offhand but I clearly knew what you meant! I know I have had something similar to that in the past although not as pronounced or like you I would have remembered it! Eerie things do happen without rhyme or reason! The bird would have unnerved me, too! sam
