When I read about the frost it prompted me to remember to see if the snow is off the mountains! The farmers in the valley say do not plant with snow on the mountains! I have been following that and have had good results, too! sam

Re: FS

Yes I expect he will have to go on some kind of medication, I don't think he drinks enough, he told me one day he had one cup of coffee in the morning and he had not had anything else to drink until that day at 4 PM. He said he was used to it as he did not want to keep stopping for a tiddle on his milk round, which incidentally he ran through all the night. Keep drinking the water.

Re: Pat

Pat it only dried cat food, really ideal for birds in winter as I only use the fish variety and the birds seem to prefer that as they used to steal it from the goose. No the only reason I am concerned is that the pellets might be too large for the babies. I might now I come to think of it soak a few and see how that works out. Incidentally we already have a brood

of young blackbirds so no harm has been done. The tiny birds prefer sunflower seeds.I quite like a spoonful myself tweet, tweet.

Re: jeansaw

The pellets are meant for Cats, I only use the fishy ones, the blackbirds are really glossy in winter, but I feel they should find more natural food for the babies. The flowers in this case are Auriculas. About a couple of years ago I had a compulsion to grow them, but really they are just too much trouble. I have them now in large containers and I just pick the blooms and photograph them. I have a proper setup for photography,  in an amateur way, but these flowers you are viewing have just been stuck in the wheel of an invalid chair. When the carnations bloom I shall have to try harder. Thank you

Re: CCT

Hi Naut. Archie lost a stone in two days.  I would need a bit more practise to travel thus encumbered. We don't wrestle bears round these parts.

Re:

Hi A. hope you have cleared your trees. My hands were a bit rough after fitting a lot of plastic ties on the net cage. Job to wear gloves on all occasions.

I'm happy to hear that Archie is okay! You have blackbirds taking pellets - we have grackles taking everything that isn't nailed down, just about, LOL...And I really like your idea of carrying sackcloth and ashes prepackaged - I know it would come in handy on many occasions...And if you come over here with your head in a grate, you will get a crowd, big game or no big game - we're simple folk here, easily amused...

so glad that archies test turned out well, it  reminds me of the time i had 2 scans done at one time, both ends sort of speaking, the doctor assured me that they were using two different scopes, lol.

you are a professional gardener, i just want to throw some seeds out and watch it grow, so much to think about.  and what exactly are the pellets made of that the birds are eating them? go out and have a talk with them birds, i know you give them bird food.

the flowers are truely beautiful, do you grow them in those containers and what are the containers made of and do they have tops on them that the flowers poke up through?

well, your poem, all i can say is the last part left me laughing, picturing a person with their head in a grate, what a delimma!

Now I'm wondering about the pellets - whether they're suitable food

for little birds, if they're any use as fertilizer... Or am I totally confused???

I'm glad that things worked out for Archie...The tone in the poem really sticks out to me.
