only one word come to mind, sad

i heard a report that described the older brother as becoming an extremist in the last 3-4 years, and that he had not seen is family in about a year, he had wanted his wife to become a muslim.  now the older brother is dead, and the wife a widow and child without the love of a father.  the wifes family is also devastated.

the younger brother, no one can believe he could have been involved. i really believe his older brother somehow got him involved.  i am glad he is alive, but his life is over.

their uncle reacted the way he thought he should so that no retaliation would come to his family, denouncing his nephews.  people will judge the entire family.

on the other side, the picture is even more grim, 4 lives lost,  and so many wounded, limbs lost, families grieving,  who knows exactly how many people this touches.  i do not know that any explanation of what happened will make any sense.

and the saddest part of all of this is the senseless taking of life happens every day in all parts of the world and it is getting worse.

I'm not really sure what to make of all of this either, except to say that I've already accepted the notion that these terrible incidences are probably going to continue for quite some time. As for your analogy between "winning" and "losing," I think winning might actually be too strong of a term for this situation. How about successful instead? They were indeed successful in accomplishing what they primarily set out to do, but I don't believe they "won" anything . . .

No doubt they accomplished their goals and it will lead to many more of these attacks! What we once knew is forever gone and we are left to be even more vigilant because there are many more waiting to become the next 'loser'! Such a sad time we live in with these idiots out to kill and maim! sam

BTW: I saw Reyes slide and I knew it was bad. Absolutely the last thing the Jays needed! And, I finally got word that the final approval will come Wednesday with a closing date the week of May 20-24! It might just end next month! I know I want it to be done!

I have no take on it.  I watch the news from every TV station, read everything on the internet, pray for the wounded and the grieving, and hope that it will never happen again, knowing full well that it will.  It is only a matter of time and place.  It is the world we live in.

We all moan about surveillance cameras but they may be needed more than ever if this sort of crime persists. We had a bout of reporting any bag that appeared to be without an owner. Sadly Naut memory is very short.

It will be interesting to see what the Michael Moore's of the world will be saying now...A great distinction you draw between being a winner and loser...Like you, I worry about others be inspired by them.

Here's my take on it, based on what limited facts I gleaned from

news coverage. For unknown reasons two young men whose family sought asylum in this country some ten years ago - and actually became American citizens - took an emotional U-turn. Whether it was young brain impulsivity, a grudge we have yet to learn about, or extreme radicalization by nefarious influences, they turned to violence. What I want to know now is whether they were lone gunmen or if they had help. There are any number of consipiracy theories available. I'll be surprised if we actually find out. I'm glad they took him alive, because at least we'll have a chance.
