we grandmas like alot of the same things

nothing like being outin the garden, but here in pensacola the summers are so hot and humid, you garden spring, fall and winter if you have a mild one and forget the summers.

our lawn is just weeds and weeds are just plants that you did not intend to grow where they are growing, so i have decided to enjoy them as they put out nice flowers. when my husband keeps them mowed they look like green grass from a distance.

i have ivy and bamboo that has gone wild.  dont think they would drive 4 hours to get my bamboo.

Re: don't plant most varieties of bamboo either. Lol....Hope that you are

I've had issues with bamboo in the past. Our next door neighbor has some along the fence and it takes constant vigilance to keep it out of our yard! I have heard, though, that the people from the Atlanta Zoo will come harvest any bamboo in GA to feed the pandas.

Re: Taps

Trumpet vines don't do well here. I tried to get one started a few years back and it didn't do well. I was hoping to attract hummingbirds!

Here, all along the back fence (actually, any fence, or any pole or anything upright) it is the trumpet vine.  They have taken over anything on which they can grow.  At least, they do draw the sweet little hummingbirds.
