Re:

You might be one of the lucky ones, sam. I know several people who could probably eat shards of glass, bits of barbed wire and chase it all with a beaker of hydrochloric acid, and not be affected in the slightest! Me, I have a couple of pieces of kielbasa and I pay for it for two days . . . !

WOW! You did have to pay for that one! I don't have a food that does that to me! And after reading your post I must say I am happy to have a cast iron stomach so to speak! sam

Re:

You remind me of my oldest brother, adnohr, who is one of those people who can literally eat anything! We tried quzzing him one night, throwing out all sorts of food items and dishes to see if we could find that one thing to which he might actually say "No, I really don't care for that." So far, nothing! Cast iron? Based on some of the things he claims to have ingested, I would say it was more like titanium . . .!

Re:

Really, lion? Not the onions it may come smothered in or the sauce you may throw on top, but the steak itself? Maybe that's a sign to try to start leaning toward a vegetarian diet. Not cutting out meat altogether, but just cutting down and adding more fruits and vegetables. That's what I did, and I've managed to lose over 45 pounds in the process! I think I now may have a steak about once or twice a year, and seem to enjoy it more because it is such a rarity and such a treat . . .

Re:

Well that doesn't sound good, TAPS. My wife was going through similar attacks for a spell until she finally had to have hers removed. Since then, she can now enjoy certain foods again, and she's lost a lot of weight! And I hate to say it but, gall bladder or no gall bladder, you should probably take it easy on the fried foods anyway! Just a friendly tip . . .

Re: Onions!

Thanks, Katray. Yes, everything is back to "normal!" I'm not a big fan of onions in any form, but sometimes, if they're mixed in with something else I can tolerate them. It seems to be so unfair that a particular food item that you really like wrecks havoc with your digestive system! Have you ever had a blooming onion? Boy, could I tell you a tale about the one and only time I ever tried one! I made the Porcelain Gods very happy that night . . .

Re:

That's good to hear, mariss! I can't imagine a cinnamon roll doing the same thing to me as a couple of pieces of kielbasa! And I have a feeling that the turkey bratwurst with lemon juice did a job on you primarily because you ate it so late at night! So, just what kind of "items" did you splurge on? I hope nothing that will keep you burping all night . . .

Re: JimmyA

That's good stuff too, Sir Wiley! Yeah, there are a lot of different meats that are wonderful and tasty, but as with anything else, if taken in moderation, they may not do as much damage to the digestive system! A good mix of fruits and vegetables might help too! I guess you'll be alright as long as you're not going crazy and smoking and eating the meat of, say, moose, muskrat or squirrels . . .

Re:

Thanks, lovelylady. Yes, the vicious cycle has ended, and all is now well! I don't think I've quite reached that age when I'll have to start to consider cutting out certain things that might be considered my "favorites." Kielbasa is certainly delicious, but it's something I very rarely eat anyway, and this was obviously an "isolated incident." The only thing that would kill me would be if I was told one day to stop drinking milk! I absolutely love milk and I drink it with every meal, regardless!

Re: Friend Jimmy I have a list and so does Wiley...LOL...We eat very simple

I guess it can be, Kabu. As we age, our systems become a little more delicate, and we have to pamper them as much as we can. On the same note, with age comes wisdom, and we know enough to listen to our bodies when it tells us something may be wrong! It kinda reminds me of that old Henny Youngman joke . . . a guy goes to the doctor's and says "Doc, it hurts when I go like that." And the doctor says "Then don't go like that!" You know what to do and what not to do . . .

Re: JimmyA

So it's how you eat, Bill, as opposed to what you eat? I can understand that as well. My dad used to yell at me and my brothers and sisters about eating slowly, and I never fully understood it until I got a little older. Yes, certain foods, when ingested too quickly, can play hell with your digestive system. But I guess that's why Alka-Seltzer is still in business . . .

Re: Jimmy...

I can see that too, Rumor. I'm not necessarily into any spicy foods either. My dad used to make a wicked pot of chili that was as dangerous as it was delicious, but that too I haven't had in a looooong time! If a few pieces of kielbasa wrecked my system for a day, I can only imagine what a bowl of chili might do . . .

Re: Jimmy

Consider yourself fortunate, Naut. I know many people who have that one food item that, although delicious and tempting, puts them "out of action" for a spell! But if you do get the chance to have a little kielbasa some time in the near future and your system reacts the same way mine did, then we will have found your system's Kryptonite!

Re:

I can understand that, FSI, for the simple reason that I don't think anyone actually knows what the heck they're really putting in hot dogs these days! If you're interested in trying them again, may I suggest vegetarian hot dogs? Between the bun, mustard, relish, and anything else you may choose to put on them, you won't know the difference, and your digestive system will probably thank you!

Re:

Thanks, lustor. Yes, I'm much better now. Thankfully incidences like that usually only last about a day. Again, it's just my system letting me know that it didn't appreciate this "foreign substance" being thrown at it! And if you really are pre-diabetic, then you should really consider cutting down on the red meat and the sweets! Not altogether, just minimizing the amount of intake. Moderation . . . that's always the key!

I have to go very easy on fried foods or my gall bladder will attack me.

Onions!

Crunchy raw on sandwiches and in salads. I love 'em but they don't love my tummy..or breath, lol..Glad you recovered nicely, Jimmy...

I love Kielbasa, though I have not had it in a long time, probably years.  The turkey bratwurst with lemon juice  I ate the other night was a little much since I ate it after 8:30p after a short work day, with tasting it and it's sort of burping up until I turned in.  I got a little rebellious the other day in the grocery store after being ill and splurged on some items. No harm from the cinnamon rolls though.

Jimmy...

Like FSI, I cannot stomach hot dogs anymore and have to be very careful with chili - if its too spicy I'm in big trouble....

There's nothing I can think of that triggers a bad reaction in my digestive system. Mind you, I haven't had any kielbasa in quite a while...

I used to eat hot dogs even though they did not agree with my digestive system...Finally I reached a point to where I stopped.

I had this guy talk to me as he is a full blown diabetic and how he eats lots of fruits and veggies and cut out a lot meat etc and he went from 390 to 240 it took a long time but he is doing quit well.  I like meat way too much and I have a bad sweet tooth.  I dont worry too much about the bad, but now because of the pre diabetic I have been watching what I eat.  Going to the doc today to talk to her about it.  Sorry you had bad effects from the food.  Hope you are better now.
