Gallon Smash

This may be a prank meant as a joke, but pranks of this kind lead to greater pranks committed. I may be old fashioned, but I believe that a good spank on the rear end can eliminate any prank and lead to respect for property, no matter how innocent the perpetrators feel about it.

Re: I can think of several...

All wonderful points, Ainsley! And I don't think any of them sound overly severe, in combinations or in and of themselves! But do the kids today embarrass easily? That's the only way some of these might work! And hey, showing a video of someone doing something . . . anything . . . constructive could work! But the kids won't necessarily watch it, because they'll automatically feel it's not cool! What are we to do . . . ?

I can think of several...

...ways for these kids to be taught a lesson.

In fact, a combo of all of them would be good:

  • Have them down on their hands and knees cleaning up the spilt milk--with a toothbrush!
  • Put each one of them in the middle of a circle where they get talked to by people on limited incomes who appreciate food and wouldn't think of wasting it for no good reason.
  • Have them live in a boring cell (one to a cell) for a week where they get fed just enough to keep them sustained.  While they're eating some very plain food, have people right outside their cell enjoying fabulous meals in front of them.  They might appreciate food instead of wasting it when they get out.
  • For every penny the milk costs, have them to write this sentence in the amount of pennies multiplied by five:  I will not destroy other people's property.
  • Tell them that toddlers play with food and throw it on the floor instead of eating it, so they're going to be treated like toddlers.  Have them sit on the floor in a circle to hear stories from little cardboard baby books and play those little kiddie records with the sickeningly-sweet instrument accompaniment--a good choice for a song would be Old MacDonald Had A Farm, and do be sure to have them sing along.  Here are some good solo songs for them to do:  I'm A Lonely Little Petunia In An Onion Patch; I'm Called Little Buttercup; I'm A Little Teapot; and The Itsy-Bitsy Spider.
  • Have a lot of adults there supervising them as they go through these different things.  If they get stubborn, tell them "That's a no-no!" and make them sit on chairs facing the wall.
  • Finally, camcord some of the best parts of all of the above and put it on YouTube to go viral--and don't forget to tag the kids with their names, ages, and where they go to school.

Be sure to warn them that any of them who does a repeat of what they did or something along the same lines will each be assigned an entire store aisle where they can clean the floor using a toothbrush.

The best solution, of course, is prevention.  How about someone starting a trend where being constructive is seen as cool while being destructive is seen as being UN-cool!?!

Peace!

Ainsley Jo

Re:

To be perfectly honest, adnohr, I don't think the kids even know what it might be that would make them "kool" today! I know I did a lot of crazy, stupid things when I was younger, but nothing as blatantly asinine or destructive as these antics, and certainly nothing I would have wanted videoed and shared with others! It's hard to imagine that some day, years from now, some of these kids might look back on their lives and think "My gosh I was such an idiot! What was I thinking?" as they get sworn in for their second term as governor! Here comes the future . . . duck!

Re:

That might do it, mariss. But for the message to really hit home, I think they should video the perpetraters cleaning up the mess in the most humiliating manner possible, and post that on Facebook or YouTube! A lot of kids enjoy being in the spotlight under various circumstances, but probably not if it's embarrassing . . .

Re:

More levels, sam, that I care to count! What I fail to understand sometimes is why the punishments aren't more severe. Stores spend thousands of dollars each year on surveillance cameras and undercover detectives, so you would think that anyone perpetrating any type of thievery or property damage should be easily caught! A few thousand dollars in fines or a little jail time may stop these antics pretty quickly! And just for good measure, they should have the kid's parents come in to clean up the mess! That'll sit real good with little Johnny's dad . . .

Re: Re: Re: a quick look on google said it was a dance that you put on u tube.

Sometimes, Kabu, that's referred to as a "sign of the times," but you're right. It all does start in the home! Obviously the parents can't be everywhere all the time and place the kids under constant supervision, but they should be introducing constructive ideals into their lives, as well as love and respect. Drugs, materialism and no faith . . . what a horrendous combination! Is there a way to reverse these trends . . . ?

posted by JimmyA on March 29, 2013 at 4:59 AM | link to this | reply

And the new trend in our Montreal Subway trains? Young people getting pie-eyed drunk during the ride - to the point of vomiting, exposing themselves, and the other obnoxious behaviour that comes with intoxication. Oh - and it's filmed, of course. That and/or the milk smashing - I can't imagine what makes the kids think doing such things make them 'kool'.

The Harlem shake is a fairly harmless looking dance from the videos I saw on the news , that looks like it would be alright other than on an airplane.  The milk trick sounds dumb and mean; they ought to make them clean the milk up and fine them; it might lose popularity fast.

Re: Re: a quick look on google said it was a dance that you put on u tube.

you are right for there are millions of kids in our Countries who's parents take the time needed to parent their kids. To supervise home work and sport and music ..they keep themselves and the kids busy and the home full of love. But of course those homes aren't news.....and I agree for every real home, there is the opposite and I blame drugs as well and no faith and materialism. and I don't see any way out.

Re:

And apparently, that's all it is, FSI! There used to be a time when people strove to be famous, and not infamous! Now, thanks to modern technology, that no longer matters. In some cases, people seem to forget the heroics and good deeds perpetrated by decent, honest citizens, and only remember the idiotic ( and sometimes horrendous ) antics by the dolts and dullards amongst us! What a shame . . .

Re:

It sure is, lustor. And sometimes one can't help to consider two points. One, what else are these kids going to do to get themselves on Facebook or YouTube? Is a human sacrifice far behind? And two, what are these kids going to be like when they are older? Would you want to work with, work for, or deal with these people as adults? Boy the future is turning into a frightening picture, isn't it?

I can't blame you there, Wiley. But unfortunately, this behavior is relatively rampant, and could actually affect you someday when you least expect it! Just be careful the next time you're in a grocery store . . . !

Re:

Me either, lovelylady. I won't be a hypocrite and say I was a little angel when I was a small boy, but we would never even consider doing things like this! And once again, I say . . . where are the parents? "Spare the rod and spoil the child!" Anyone remember that quote? Believe me, I'm not in favor of child abuse, but a good whack on the fanny once or twice may actually curb some of this behavior . . . !

Re: Jimmy

No argument here, Naut! As long as other "morons" download and feed off of these shenanigans, it's never going to go away any time soon! Hey, I'll bet that if the next idiot who perpetrates one of these pranks is thrown in jail for a few days, and that fact was put on the internet, these pranks would begin to fade real quick . . .

Re: another asinine product of having nothing useful to do.

You're right, Ciel. It should be an arrestable offense! Besides, if another customer had actually fallen and injured themselves on that milk, it would have been the store who would have been held responsible, not the perpetrators! Yeah, nothing better to do . . .

Re: jimmy , i am not certain but if something goes what they call

That may be true, jean, but as always, I say . . . where are the parents during all of this? My wife and I have this discussion all the time! Whenever we see or hear about these things, the first thing either of us usually says is "My parents would have never let us do or get away with any of this!" And I believe that "viral" is now a four-letter word! It's rarely anything positive . . .

Re: JimmyA

You're right about that, Bill. Many people never consider the aggravated costs of cleaning up after these pranks are perpetrated, coupled with the loss of the product! We waste more food in this country than some nations have altogether! And don't waste your time blaming the parents anymore! As far as they're concerned, apparently they're irreproachable . . .

I saw that or at least the same thing on the tv but what I saw it was done in several locations and several kids were involved.  What a waste.

I'm sure you're right, TAPS. The next thing you know, you'll be pelted with eggs being thrown from another aisle while you shop, and someone will be nearby to record your reaction. Uh oh . . . did I just give some hooligans an idea? Don't forget to duck!

Re: Jimmy...

That's all too true, Rumor! And it's really a shame! Thanks to modern technology, a girl in Ohio was gang raped recently at a party, and all the on-lookers did was record it and place it on the internet instead of helping the poor girl! Hearing the term "gone viral" now puts me on alert that it's almost always something bad! Are kids really this out of control today . . . ?

Re: Jimmy

That's one aspect to consider, Justi. I was only slightly teasing when I said that the loss of milk was the most irksome to me, only because I really do love milk! But of course the destruction, property damage and insensitivity of these pranks is the worst aspect! And you're right . . . with all of the additives and chemicals being pumped into almost everything we eat and drink, sometimes it's difficult to know who the real culprits are! That's why my wife and I only drink organic milk . . .

Re: a quick look on google said it was a dance that you put on u tube.

Thank you too, Kabu! Yes, our life is a beautiful story, as I'm sure is yours and Wiley's!

Needless to say, your suggestions for finding more "constructive" things for these kids to do are sound, reasonable and positive. But that's only half the battle. The other half would be trying to convince these kids to participate, and a lot of that I must say falls onto the shoulders of the parents! And of course, if their Smart Phones and iPads weren't a factor, they could be doing a whole lot more with their lives! I hate to sound pessimistic, but I get the nagging feeling that it's going to get worse before it gets better . . .

At the very least, it's petty larceny, if they don't pay for the spilt milk.

sad to think facebook is the only life some kids have.  they are becoming increasingly bored and lonely and antisocial.

EFor myself Jimmy the milk gallon smashing prank’s a juvenile level of their parents’ irresponsible obnoxious carelessness, that is, leaving unfinished sandwiches, donuts, and mail from home in shopping carts that other people use and the service attendants have to play waiters and waitresses in restaurants. At the waste containers whole boxes of garbage from private homes are left as if the supermarket parking lot’s the garbage dump. So the service attendants have to play Waste Management sanitation engineers that pay a lot more even to the guys that pick up and dump the cans. And, adult customers push carts into carts. This is a very well done post. My problem is not with the amont of milk but the lack of moral and honest appreciation toward others and their property. I also find those who supply our milk after filling the cows and te milk with so many additives that they may be as bad for us as what these punks did to the merchant.
