I was working part time in a day surgery clinic for some years...
the main srgeon drove me crazy....if he wasn't fighting on the phone with his wife, he was ringing his broker or real Estate agent. Naturally he was always running late with the next procedure and guess who got told off by the patients...yeah me of course. When they saw the Dr they would smile sweetly.

For me, any night's sleep when I don't have to get up for a "potty break" is a good night for me! But I understand having angst about an early morning appointment keeping you from getting a good night's sleep! And as far as those long waits at the doctor's office, I think they're just trying to get the best use out of those magazines that have been laying around since 1998 . . .

Doctor's office assumes that some of the people with appointments won't show up at last minute so they over-book by half again as many people. Then when everyone shows up for their appointments there is lots of waiting. This is because doctors feel their time is more important than the time of their patients.

I usually don't sleep well either when I know that I am waking up earlier than normal. For me I feel pressure to get to sleep, but the pressure causes me to stay awake.
I remember reading an article that said with technology, doctor's offices could do more to let patients know how they are doing on time. This entry reminded me of that.
