My most recent examination by a physician bears out that it is not a rotator cuff injury.

Having been through a serious shoulder injury myself, I can tell you that it's extremely important to get looked after promptly. If something is ruptured, which was the case with me, an X-ray won't show it - you need an MRI! I had surgery in the end, and it's all fixed up, but including post-op therapy, it took more than a year...Good luck with this!
