Re:

It would appear, shamasehar, that you are in agreement with everyone else! I know many of our freedoms have deteriorated over the years, but the right to eat our food with whichever condiments we choose should never be compromised! Thanks for the input . . .

Flavour-enhancers or add-ons are a matter of choice and one should have the freedom  to choose.ketchup is used with a number of Indian snacks inspite of the variety of chutneys we make at home.😊

Re:

That's all it really is, lion . . . personal taste. And no, if you took the time to prepare a nice meal for me, I wouldn't automatically start throwing ketchup or anything else on it without trying it first! In fact, there's very few things I would put ketchup on anyway, so I think you'd be safe! So, what's for dinner . . . ?

Re: JimmyA

To say the least, Bill! Unfortunately, my friend is one of those kinds of people who feels that everyone should be doing what he does, should like everything he likes, should believe everything he believes, etc. He is of the sort who never begins or ends a conversation with "in my opinion." Needless to say, although we've been friends for almost half a century, our "together time" has diminished substantially over the years . . .

Re:

Really, mariss? Although I like ketchup, I've never really considered it a "healthy" food. Not that it was bad for you, but it doesn't necessarily rate up there with broccoli or spinach! And I used to put ketchup on my fish too, and also never, ever put it on my eggs! But of course, as I've written, to each his own . . .

Re: Jimmy...

Well, Rumor, any combination is feasible of course, but not necessarily tasty! When we were kids, my siblings and I would occasionally put jelly with our bologna! Why? I don't know! We were dopey kids! I don't think I'd like that now . . .

Re:

Absolutely, jean! I think by now people know what's bad for them, what they should be avoiding, and what they should have in moderation. And a little dash of ketchup never hurt anyone . . .

Well if I had cooked you a beautiful gormet meal and you put ketchup on without trying it then I might be a little miffed, other than that I really don't mind what people put on their food, it's all a matter of personal taste

ÜI’ve put ketchup on my meatballs after the sauce ran out. And I didn’t turn a woman on once not using much ketchup, following a man, making fun of it but he was strange Jimmy. BC-A, Bill’s R®st

I usually prefer kecthup on fish sandwiches to tartar sauce, though I like tomato sauce on Italian beefs.  I would not have it on eggs at all.  It seems to depend on the person.  If it is not toxic, it shouldn't matter.  Ketchup is considered a healthy food in all that I have read!

Jimmy...

I agree: "to each his own"...I'm one who likes ketchup on my eggs and putting it on meatballs is fine, too...now, ketchup on balogna? Noo way....

posted by Rumor on March 12, 2013 at 2:10 PM | link to this | reply

i think people should be able to eat what they want if in moderation.  the people that produce our food dont care what we eat as long as they can sell lots of it.

so we should be aware what is in our food because being sick is not worth eating some foods.  moderation and even giving up on some things is good.

Re:

Sounds good to me, lustor. And I think you may be the only person I've ever heard of with no ketchup in their house! That's okay . . . I guess your ex overdid it a bit, and seemed to put you off to ketchup! Good thing you still like mayo . . .

posted by JimmyA on March 12, 2013 at 9:32 AM | link to this | reply

I dont put ketchup on anything, dont even have it in the house, but it might be because my ex put it on everything including eggs.  I use mayo on almost everything that is a sandwhich, and my meatballs I put barbq sauce or steak sauce.

Re:

And again, Amanda, I say, to each his own! It may not be something someone else might do, but does it really make a difference? As long as they don't force their tastes on anyone else, or make you feel uncomfortable with your own tastes . . .

Hi Jimmy,

A close friend of mine put ranch dressing and mustard on everything.

Re:

Oh, sam, if only it were that simple! I can easily see it that way, and you can easily see it that way, but this particular friend is just one of those types of people . . . Ever hear of a movie called "The World According To Garp?" Well, in this realm, it's "The World According To Dave!" As long as your opinions, lifestyle, actions, notions, etc. are aligned with his, you're fine. But say or do anything differently . . .

Re: your plate, your meat balls your ketchup....he can mind his business

Thanks, Kabu, I've been trying to tell him that for almost fifty years! And I personally wouldn't go so far as to put kechup on my ice cream, but if someone else likes that combination, I would accept that. It would be somewhat reluctantly, but I would accept that nonetheless . . .

Re: JimmyA

You sound like a big ketchup fan, Sir Wiley, and that's fine by me! And I think I have an idea of what certain Italians may feel about ketchup on their food, but I can't imagine what an Irishman might think of it in his stew! I wonder if it counters the effects of the beer at all . . .

Re:

There ya go, adnohr. And hey, I would never think to put vinegar on pizza or peanut butter on a tomato sandwich, but if that's how others like it, what difference does it make? And as far as "eating styles" are concerned, my wife likes to eat the crust off of her pizza slices first. It kinda makes for a somewhat sloppy meal, but that's what she likes to do! Whatever, right . . . ?

Re:

Sounds good to me, C C T. I honestly don't think there's a "right way" or a "wrong way" to eat almost anything! I mean, it's not like I'm spreading shards of fiberglass on my cereal or something! Sorry about your "meat situation." Being married to a vegetarian, I don't eat that much meat anymore anyway, which is not necessarily a bad thing ( I've lost over 40 pounds since being married! ) Good luck with the diet . . .

Re: Jimmy

I've tried, Naut. Believe me, I've tried! But this particular friend, who I've known since Kindergarten, is your stereotypical ultimate ball-buster. If he says up and you say up, you're fine. If he says East and you say East, you're fine. But if he says red and you say blue . . . forget it! You'll hear about it for the next 20 years, because your opinion differed from his. That's just the way he is. "To each his own" and "everybody has their own opinion" are foreign concepts to him! Needless to say we very, very rarely eat dinner together! I just don't need the negative play-by-play of why everything I'm eating, and how I'm eating it, is wrong!

Re:

And that's the best way to approach it, FSI. At least that's how I think too. When I was a big steak eater ( remember . . . I married a vegetarian ) I used to dip it in ketchup as well. But over time I stopped, because sometimes a well-cooked steak doesn't need ketchup or any other type of sauce. But if that's your thing, then more power to ya . . . !

Re:

Thanks, lovelylady! At least that's one vote in my favor! And as far as those "chips" are concerned, I don't think there's a right way or a wrong way to eat them either! My wife likes to put Ranch dressing on hers! Who cares, right? And I like honey mustard dressing on my salad! Mmm, mmm, good . . . !

I am with you, to each his own! I figure if they are not eating it then they should not concern themselves with it! sam

and eat his the way he likes...just leave you alone to have...well Ketchup on your ice cream if you want!!

I like ketchup too, even on my fried eggs, meat, even  if it's Italian. Heck, I'd put ketchup on me Irish stew. LOL

I totally agree! To each our own. My daughter eats vinegar on pizza, and I have a friend who loves peanut butter on her tomato sandwiches. It's whatever works for you!

Well we don't eat much meat these days Jimmy, I think your meat is probably better than ours . What with Neddy being included in many mixes called beef. Anyway My brother and I just like salad cream over our veg and chips and vinegar or soy sauce on fish. I quite like tomato sauce or mango chutney, or garlic spread. It is making me feel hungry as I am trying to diet.

Jimmy

I put all kinds of things on all kinds of things and do as I please, and everybody should do the same; and I strongly object to anyone giving me a hard time over any of that. At the very least, I would tell him to mind his own business and go fly a damn kite...

I've had people react funny to me dipping steak into ketchup. Heck, my cousin used to eat ketchup by itself while a guy at The Agency puts ketchup on everything, and I mean everything. Like you, I feel to each their own.

Here's one for you, Jimmy...

I like honey mustard on my chips (proper English for french fries!).  Like you, I find putting Ketchup on eggs, be they fried or scrambled, repulsive!  Nay, beyond repulsive!

I don't think ketchup on meatballs is so awful though.
