Comments on A rose by any other name

Yes, character names can be difficult, especially if the name you come up with is well-known through another character. For example, when I hear the name Edith, I immediately think of Edith Bunker from All In The Family. It's difficult to come up with either a unique name, or one that doesn't invoke images of someone else. Good luck . . .

I like Edie. Or there's Agnes, with Aggie. Maybe just a word changed here or there will take away the exactness of the event, and you can keep Livvy? BTW, I's do as Annicita suggest, and go back for a perm fix. ÙYou did pay for it, after all. And would be doing hairdresser a favor. SHe needs to be more careful next time.

1.  I would go back there and let them know that you are normally satisfied but this time you need them to fix the problem...They can put a relaxer on and condition it so that it is not so frizzy and dried out.

2.  I remember the names like.....Gladys, Marie, Irma, Betty, Dorothy, Louise, Maxine and Lois....hope some of these help or at least give you a jumping off point.

After reading your humorous post today, how about Brillo for a name?

Edith...as soon as I read it I said YES!!! it really suits the time

the perm will grow out...just be sure to buy some quality moisturiser and apply that after washing and before rinsing. It will help take out the dry frizz...she obviously left the perm solution on too long. Goldarn!!

I can't imagine you caught in "stop action", nor can I imagine you with a fresh perm.  I love the name "Edith".   I had a special aunt with that name.  She is long gone now.  The other aunt was "Artith".  One doesn't see that name too often either.

Very interesting reflections on the importance of names! For example, history would have taken a rather different turn if Adolf had ended up as a Schicklgruber, the last name of his paternal grandmother, a distinct possibility, since there was no official grandfather;  it was actually his father's name for a while. One cannot imagine people willing to shout 'Heil Schicklgruber', LOL....

And Edith inevitably brings to mind Archie's wife, where of course 'Bunker' is also very apt...
