Re:

Thanks, mariss. Yes, I know there are many options out there, but I think I was fortunate to have mustered enough confidence just to post this synopsis. Sometimes I feel we writers are just a drop in the ocean, and are a dime a dozen. Hard to make yourself heard, and even harder to make a name for yourself. Does it sound as though my self-confidence is somewhat shakey? Of course! But I would still love to share these stories . . .

You could always try Amazon options first, and go from there.  Your opinion blog is popular enough, that maybe you could consider taking that direction with published books, for example, some of your own stories giving your reactions.  I always look forward to reading yours and Taps. Just a suggestion.

Re:

Actually I have, lion, but I really didn't pursue it as much as I probably should or could have. I did enter a couple in a writing competition, but made a huge mistake in judgement concerning who was judging the contest, and it ended miserably and discouragingly. A long story, perhaps for another day . . .

Re:

Thanks, TAPS. I know a lot of people who really like short stories as opposed to huge epics. I guess it's kinda like having a quick snack instead of a full meal! But that's okay if they're not your preference. All of these stories were whacky concepts and ideas that came to me ( some based on actual events ) that I simply had to put into writing. I'm hoping, as a collection, that others will enjoy them too. We'll see . . .

Re: Re: Re:

That's really too bad, lustor. Reading can be such an enjoyment, depending on the subject matter of course. I guess it's enough that you read everyone's blogs . . .

Several of these do sound like my cup of tea.  Have you tried getting any of them published in magazines?

I must admit to you that I am not drawn to volumes of short stories, even those written by favorite authors.  But, these stories that you mention here do sound intriguing.  I wish you success in your writing and publishing endeavors.

Re:

Thanks, sam. Yes, I know how hard it is to get anything published these days, and the "electronic" route seems to be the wave of the future! I'll have to see what happens. And the one on baseball is actually based on a true story! Even more intrigued now . . . ?

Re:

That's true, C C T. And although it would be nice to be "rewarded" for these efforts, it is more important to me to be able the share these bizarre tales! I worked very hard on them . . .

Re: Jimmy

Hmmm . . . interesting, Naut. But perhaps if you read the story, you may understand the metaphore, and feel differently. It's okay, I don't mind negative votes. This is a democracy, isn't it?

They all got my interest! I want to read the one on baseball! It's tough to find a publisher these days so I think self publishing on Amazon using Kindle is a fine way to go and some folks have made a lot of money by going this route! It can always go hard copy once it's out there! I wish you all the best! sam

Re:

Thanks, FSI. I hope so too. And there's an interesting story about that title of Beelee Bone's Pawn Shop, but I'm not sure if I should relay it or not . . .

I hope to do so as well, Amanda! Like I wrote, I really like and am proud of these tales, and want nothing more than to share them with others . . .

Well you should read more often, lustor! There's a lot of great stuff out there!

Why not Jimmy, it will be good exercise and the titles sound intriguing. I don't honestly know if any one makes money out of this kind of project. Although I should not think that is your motive, it is nice to be rewarded for one's effort. You have the skill I am sure it will be an interesting opportunity. Some make money by advising others how to go about writing their own thing as you probably know.

Jimmy

I think they all have great potential, except one, so I shall cast a negative vote! I have an aversion to tales about 'fast-moving metallic monsters' - but that's just me! I know there are people out there who like that kind of stuff...

They all sound very intriguing. What stuck out to me most was Beelee Bone’s Pawn Shop and A Hole in the Sky. I say overall there is a lot of potential there.

Re: JimmyA

Thank you, Sir Wiley. Spreading out the subject matters and touching on different genres was what I was going for. Some might prove to be more interesting than others, but hopefully the reader would enjoy them all. Hope you have a terrific weekend as well . . .

Re:

Thanks, adnohr, and "diversity in subject matter" was what I was actually going for! Believe me, no two stories are alike in any way, other than they are bizarre fantasies . . . some with twisted endings, some with humorous overtones, some with happy conclusions. I didn't want to try to fill individual volumes with stories of the same genre ( I don't have enough to complete that anyway! ) Hey, some people buy a box of assorted chocolates, some people buy a box of just chocolate-covered cherries! This is of the "assorted" variety . . .

Re: i would do exactly as annicita said.

I know many people who enjoy short stories too, jean, and that's who I wanted to cater to. But like I responded to Annicita, I didn't really classify each story to a particular genre . . . technically they're all simply fantasies. What may sound like a sci-fi story really isn't, but I guess you'd have to read them to see for yourself. Maybe someday . . . Thanks for the feedback!

Re: Interesting....and of course one is allowed to advertise their works.

Thank you, Kabu. They sure were fun to write, especially with the subject matters being all over the place. That's what I wanted . . . a huge variety of hopefully interesting tales. We'll see what happens down the road . . .

Re:

Thanks, Annicita, and thanks for the suggestions. However, I don't really consider any of these stories to be of one genre ( sci-fi, fantasy, etc. ) Technically, they're all fantasy ( although two or three are based on actual events ). I don't think I have enough of a collection to break them up into seperate novels, and each are so short they would probably end up being in a novella. And you're right . . . I'm no longer crazy about the title ( I was at first, but not sure anymore ). That's why I wrote tentatively. I could go with the title of a story as you've said, and simply add "and other short stories." We'll see. I guess I'll have to produce more stories to create larger volumes. That's okay . . . I got a million of 'em! Thanks again . . .

JimmyA

Frankly you ought to publish all of them at once, the titles are inviting, it will make a great read and nice to be able to read the stories however the reader is drawn to them. Good luck my friend and have a good weekend.

I tend to agree with Annicita too. I read everything, so would probably enjoy them all. Each description was alluring, but there is such a diversity in subject matter...this is what I was thinking as I read them out before reading the comments. Go ahead - publish your first e-book. I'll be a buyer!

posted by adnohr on March 8, 2013 at 6:43 PM | link to this | reply

i would do exactly as annicita said.

because i would never buy a volume of short stories with sci fi, because i do not care for sci fi.  you need to class these in different volumes and then i would buy what sounds good to me.  i read alot of short stories.

posted by jeansaw on March 8, 2013 at 5:30 PM | link to this | reply

Interesting....and of course one is allowed to advertise their works.

I like short stories....and wish you well getting a publisher.

posted by Kabu on March 8, 2013 at 5:18 PM | link to this | reply

I would take the sci fi and put them in a separate collection...the fantasy, fairies etc in another and the remaining in a 3rd collection....make them Vol I, II & III....

change the book trailer and title....give each volume a more unified title or pic your fave and title it that with ...... And Other Short Stories....

Epublish them on amazon.com and price the first one low, the next one a little higher and so on

good luck!
