I think I would talk to him first, TAPS. But you say he may be uncomfortable when he next sees you...so did he realize you were present? If so, he should have come to talk to you immediately after the young lady left.....if all is innocent, that is.

Wow! That's actually even more confusing! Perhaps it was just an old friend he was lending money to, and decided to keep it from your niece so nothing would get misconstrued ( I'm just guessing here ). No matter what though, there are still numerous pieces of the puzzle missing, and you're probably better off keeping silent until you know for sure . . .
