Re:
That it was, sam, that it was! I would still loved to have seen the looks and reaction of at least one person who passed by it and asked "Who the heck was MUPH?"

Re:
That's probably true, lion, although such projects may be costly for certain towns. However, they should weigh their options . . . the expense of putting up a mural against the expense of constantly cleaning up graffiti! I would still have loved to see some of the reactions from people trying to figure out who MUPH might have been . . .

Well, TAPS, I don't think the Lone Ranger left as many of those things laying around as people might have thought. Silver was pretty expensive in those days . . . !

LOL, that is a pretty basic mistake.
I tend to think that if you want to avoid graffiti then perhaps you should have less ugly walls. Get murals or mosaics and perhaps people will be less inclined to deface them

Re:
Really, lustor? A $10k fine? Well, I must admit, that's quite a deterrent! However, as you've said, that's only if they're "caught in the act." What are the odds of that actually happening?

where I am from there was all kinds of graffiti and I have to admit my son in law was one of the many main graffiti artist and it was put there to show support for their gangs. Here where I am now I have only seen graffiti once and I heard that there is a 10k fee for the parents if their kids is caught doing the act

Re:
It certainly did, Annicita. I mean, here I am, thirty years later, still retelling the tale! And I actually haven't seen Muph . . . er . . . Murph, in quite a long time. I wonder if he remembers this tale . . .

Re: Jimmy
I had a feeling, Naut, that someone might have eventually brought up that possibility, like people who think it's cute to sometimes spell fish with a PH. Unfortunately, this particular graffiti artist just wasn't that clever! In fact, if people knew he had actually spelled his own name wrong, the cute concept of muff would have went right out the window . . . !

I'm glad, lovelylady. I love passing on humorous tales such as this. And I guess we're cut from the same cloth . . . I don't drink either, and am also a terrible speller, drunk or sober!

Well, mariss, since a "tipsy" person scrawled it, I guess it's only fitting that tipsy people try to decipher it! I've always wondered how long that thing remained up there . . .

Glad you enjoyed that, Kabu. And you never know . . . there never really was any "MUPH," but there may have actually been a "FOO!" And they were seemingly everywhere . . . !

Re: JimmyA
That probably would have worked, Wiley. What other possible excuse could someone give ( or leave ) for spelling their own name wrong? And who knows . . . "MURH" might have been less confusing than "MUPH!"

Re:
That's actually an excellent point, FSI. I too wonder if I saw something so cryptic, so confusing, so indecipherable, that was just the result of someone's poor attempt at spelling!

It very well may be, adnohr! I saw a store map one time where someone had placed an X on a spot and wrote "You are not here!" Could that have been you . . . ?

And I suppose, Ciel, that we'll never know exactly who Heisenberg was, or if they were even actually on that campus, just like the people who are still trying to figure out who the hell MUPH may have been! Ah, the beauty of cryptic graffiti . . .

Very much the good ol' days, C C T! Yeah, this is a story that will live on forever! "Murph" may have faded into obscurity, but there will always be just one MUPH!

beer beside it with a squiggly mark beside it to show the guy was drunk.LOL

That is hilarious that he misspelled his name. I now wonder how many of those graffiti messages I did not understand were the result of misspellings.
