Have been catching up again, Naut. It seems Spain has not just the Muslim problem, but also their economy which is in turmoil at the moment. Personally, I think a human life is too precious to be wasted for religion, any religion. The authentic freedom of religion, speech etc., is that you are allowed to believe what you wish, but you don't try to foist your beliefs on others. And because one doesn't believe as you do is certainly not a valid reason for prison or death.

There is a wide variance within Christianity as to how people feel about martydom.

every religion has it followers, and lots of different reasons for doing so. I do believe most believe in live and let live.  Here we are talking about religious zealots on both sides. and again probably for alot of reasons.  Religion has always been a way of controlling people.

They seem to retain what promotes their cause! As far as the Christians are concerned, it's the way they believe and death is not an end but a beginning and when serving the Lord it goes with the territory so to speak! Jesus said that folks will be persecuted for his name's sake! It is tough a course to follow but faith is what moves them! sam

I have always wished I could have the kind of faith those people have... that conviction in one's beliefs that allows one to go  into a G-d forsaken country and try to win souls for the Lord... I never understood proselytism... that need to have others believe in what one believes.   I am not an atheist, I do believe in G-d ( though many, believe it or not, still to this day approach me when they find out I am Jewish and ask me if I do believe in G-d)  but I respect others that choose a different way to adore him than what I was taught to believe...and even if  I think  they are crazy and misguided, I also think missionaries  are to be admired for they risk everything to do what they think is right.  Again I tell you my friend... I wish I could be like them and go all out to do what in my heart I believe to be right.  Be well  Naut  xoxoxo

I would say "No".  Rather they are emulating the Apostles Peter and John (see Acts 4) who, when told to stop preaching about Jesus, declared,

"Whether it be right in the sight of God to hearken unto you more than unto God, judge ye.   For we cannot but speak the things which we have seen and heard."

Naut

As a reasonably rational atheist I believe is the way you described yourself back on the blog in asking a question. The answer is No! You know much more about Islam than about Christianity.
