Re:
Yes he was, mariss. Unfortunately, I hardly remember him. Now I wish I had spent more time with him and learned more of his craft and specialties. I will be pleasantly surprised if the current owners of my grandparent's house allow my brother and me access to the interior . . .

Interesting. I would have to find out if the owners didn't mind. He sounds like an interesting person.

Re:
Many people did back then, FSI. If you remember your history, the Cold War was in full swing by then, and the Cuban Missile Crisis in the early '60's just made bomb shelters that much more desirable for people. War, and its threat, can make a lot of people extremely paranoid, and make them take certain drastic steps. That's basically what my grandfather was feeling in the '40's. Here's another mystery I can't wait to solve . . . !

Re:
Why would you think that, lustor? Believe it or not, from what I remember, the house wasn't all that big in the first place. I can't see anyone unknowingly discovering one of these hidden rooms, getting trapped in it with no way out, and then "expiring" in there! I mean, I know a lot of people have skeletons in their closets but . . .

Re:
Thanks, jean. Yes, discoveries like these can be very exciting! Since it's been almost fifty years, I can only hope that, if any of the subsequent owners did discover any of those hidden rooms ( but altered them ), that they passed the news on to other owners down the line. I would hate to think that the "current" owners know, or knew, nothing about these secret chambers, nor do I think they would allow us to smash holes in their walls to find them!

Re:
That it will, sam! Who knows? Perhaps, with the owners permission, we may get some kind of news crew to film our discoveries! Hey, remember when Geraldo Rivera opened up Al Capone's vault after many years? Everyone anticipated huge discoveries, but all they found was an empty liquor bottle! Very disappointing! I wouldn't want that to happen to us!

Re:
Thanks, TAPS. Believe you me, there will be a healthy blog in the near future that will relay all of our findings! I just hope that the whole affair isn't "a bust" for any reason!

Re: JimmyA
I hope so, Wiley. If nothing else, perhaps my grandparents looking down will at least appreciate our renewed interest in their old homestead. I'm also curious to see what old memories may come rushing back after not having been to this home since the late '60's! I doubt that I'll even recognize anything . . .

Re: Jimmy
Thanks, Justi. Like I wrote, I have not been to this house in almost 50 years, and have absolutely no idea what to expect! Even if we don't come away with any treasures or heirlooms, I would at least still love to know if any of the subsequent owners did find any of those hidden rooms! What a story to pass on . . .

Re:
Of course, adnohr! Believe me, I'm just as curious as you all are now! However, I must stick to my normal mantra "Hope for the best, but expect the worse." I use that because I would always rather be pleasantly surprised than greatly disappointed! And in this case, I'm not going to assume anything . . . we'll just have to wait and see what happens!

Re: Jimmy
That's the game plan, Naut. To be honest, I have a feeling that the owners may be susceptible to a few simple questions, and perhaps an "outside" investigation, but for one reason or another I'm somewhat pessimistic about them actually letting us inside the house itself and allowing us to poke around a bit! Who knows? We may get lucky . . .

Thanks, Kabu. I'm not sure when we'll actually get the chance to pull this off, but we've been talking about it for some time now, and it may occur sooner than we thought. Of course I'll let everyone know what we find . . .

You have me wondering if those secret rooms are still there...I have heard my one neighbor who along with her husband had their house built in the 1950s, have a bomb shelter in their house.
