Hm more to it than one would imagine Naut. I don't know which would be  harder to handle a loaded or empty vessel

again i feel unwell reading this but I guess if like the sailors I was

making good money.....I am somewhat worried with all this fishing that the squid were being fished to extinction!!

I remember the movie version of THE PERFECT STORM

with waves that seemed possible only in CG land... and they may have been made that way for the movie, but I guess they happen. I'd be thrilled and terrified to experience 40-foot waves!

I would not want that responsibility. A few feet in my Dad's boat, and I'm nervous when I'm steering.
