- Go to At Sea...Part XXIII
I'm so glad that the worst thing that happened on the fishing boat I was on (salmon fishing in the Pacific) was me heaving over the side. I'm also very thankful that the one cruise ship I went on did not have any kind of trouble at all (except me getting seasick).

I'm having a great time reading this, only ever sailed once, but
it still makes me happy to remember that day...

True adventure Naut, I guess one loves the sea or fears the mighty power that exists.
I kind of feel that on a calm warm night it would be more of a siren calling one into its depths if one was standing looking into the mesmerising swell.

Perfect choce of words, Naut. You took me there, vertigo of my soul as I stared into the foaming storm waves....it was wonderful. Now waiting to see how it feels on a squid boat...

I doubt I could read that book! I always think of my sons and their commercial fishing expeditions and so thankful they do not do that any more! I bet it was refreshing to be able to party and have the next day to recover, too! lol sam

One of my earliest memories is of being repeatedly washed over by waves as I sat, back to the mast, tied to it by my waist with my cousin's belt... I must have been about 8 and I was more fascinated than afraid of the loud thunder and bright lightning all around me... Apparently we had sneaked out in his "sailboat" ( a small boat he had added a mast to) and gone too far out when a thunderstorm had come out of nowhere as they often do around Cuba... My cousin ( 13) got it good when the weather finally cleared out and we were able to get back to the beach. That day I fell in love twice... with the sea and with my cousin loll Anyway... I can very well imagine that amazing feeling you felt while almost touching the suds of those white caps... The sea can arouse strong reactions in us measly humans :-) Can't wait to see what happens in your story... xoxoxo

the storms make me feel nauseous just thinking...not a good sailor
and of course that fatal storm on the Sydney to Hobart was no joke...Son is desperate to crew one year, so far it hasn't happened, just a one day sail on the Harbour on one of those big yachts...a birthday gift.
