I didn't see the mini-series; not much of a movie/TV watcher. I was so disappointed when I saw The Carpetbaggers after reading the book, where the characters were so different from what I was expecting. It put me off seeing any movie if I had already read the story.

Something a lot of book lovers have in common is not being able to put a good book down, I also fine myself a little sad when a book ends, it's like saying goodbye to a friend.

When I read it, no one got a thing out of me for nearly a week.  It took only a day to re-watch the entire miniseries, however, and it was fairly faithful to the book, though not as rich with cultural information.
THE NAME OF THE ROSE was like that, too.

You should never feel apologetic for reading. In fact, if more people read more often, there might be a little more understanding between everyone! I've never read Shogun, but know of it. Sounds interesting . . .
