I tend to agree with you, if somebody is failing a course it could be a simple indication that they are on the wrong course or that the course isn't being taught in the right way for them. Just passing everyone is a way of avoiding dealing with the causes of the problem by dealing with the symptom

This happened to my middle daughter and it hurt her badly, took her a year to catch up, but she has her masters now so all is well that ends well.

My former spouse was a high school teacher and I know she too hours to prepare her courses, she was a mathetician- Mathmatics Specialist actually...........

The students would have been better served to repeat areas that were weaknesses to improve and learn the material! I spent a lot of years in curriculum development and one area of importance was K-12 articulation. When that happens teachers do not have the freedom to do as they choose but a set standard of outcomes must be met and they have steps to achieve it as well and everyone must follow it! sam
